Department of ignorant questions calling here! :)

Me no nothink about team gym, but just got interested, so can I pick on you to find out?

What would be the most complicated sort of move you'd be likely to see done off a trampet? Are the moves along the same lines as what you might see in tramp? Do you get moves with backwards rotation?

you'll only get backwards stuff if you're a beasty trampetter lol there is a new requirement for a run of double somersaults by all members or a row of somersaulting vaults (given that trampette is combined with vaulting) You dont see many double fronts though because their tariff is tiny, a full twist is worth more!!! As such you genrally get teams exploiting twisting for all its worth!! the other thing is though you have one run where all members of a team have to do the same thing the "compulsory run" oddly enough! but in the others it is advisable that there are atleast 3 levels of intensification, that meaning that there should be atleast 3 progressions in the value of moves within that run!
Last year my teams compulsory run was a 540 twist, then our other trampette run was 3 360 twists, a half in back out and 2 720 twists so you definatly get to see some fun moves because the lowest scoring is somethign like a straight front!

Anyways ive gone away from the question havent i..... hehe erm.... the hardest trampette moves......if you watch euroteam then you get some amazing stuff from the men, 540 twisting double straight! always fun! however at the british.... the hardest or highest scoring things by the girls were probably, double pike half out and erm, 900 twists!
On vault i think handspring 540 twists and possibly a handspring front (mine and the only one in the whoel comp! :P *bows*...... lets forget the fact i rolled out of it!) were probably the highest scoring forthe gals! i believe the lads did some fun twisting tsucks but yeh thats about as hard as it gets!

Feel free to pick on me for my team gym knowledge, as you may just about be able to tell I love the sport and as such seem to have picked up quite a lot of knowledge! so just fire away!

Ah. I think what I've just discovered (by way of mention of vaults) is that I know nothing about Team Gym, and that it's maybe not even what I thought it was at all.

Will need to go off and start finding out once I've got my nice fast phoneline installed. Wonderful place this; only a few weeks ago I was finding out what sports aerobics was!

(900 twist??? eek! Had to sit and work out how many that is!)

you know nothing about it?!?!!? i could almost consider that a crime! right I'll outline the senior rules for you!

3 pieces, trampette, tumble and and floor

trampette, 3 runs take place, in each run, 6 members of the team must complete moves over the trampette. of these 3 runs atleast 1 must be a vaulting run. Therefore you can either have 1 vault run and 2 just trampette runs OR 2 vault runs and 1 trampette run! there is a compulsory run whereby everyone in the team must complete the same move. In the other 2 as i meantioned in my other post "intensification" should occur, if this does not happen then big deductions come into place!! There is also a compulsory requirement for double somersaults by every member of a team in one run or alternatively somersaulting vaults, as well as this there should be one run where all members of the team complete atleast 360 twists.

tumble, 3 runs take place, in each run 6 members of the team must complete tumbles consisting of atleast 3 moves joined together. of these 3 runs there must be atleast 1 forward run, so like with trampette there must be either 1 or 2 forwards or backwards run and the one thats left is the other.... make sense? Like trampette also there has to be a compulsory run and in the other 2 intensification! There are also bonus marks available for paricular combinations for example somersault somersault. (under new senior code however the sommies must change shape or the second is not counted as a different move!)
Tumbles should be completed within 15m on a carbon fibre track and there is a compulsory requirement for atleast 1 run containing ATLEAST 360 twists from every member.

Floor: floor routines must contain ALL members of the team, (which by the way can contain from 6 to 12 gymnasts each atleast 15 in the year of competition!) it should be between 2 1/2 and 3 minutes long, containing comulsory elements of 2 spins, 2 jumps, 2 balances and 2 body waves as well as atleast 6 different shapes created in the choreography. Dance should be original and changes of tempo should occur where possible! all gymnasts must be moving at all time so go easy on the cannons, isolated body movements, so say only wiggling your arm, can get very heavily deducted and be careful not to overuse the same choreography! judges don't seem to much like that either!

I think thats most of the things you need to know when you're starting out.... If you want to know more about specific moves try to grab yourself a code of points! And go for it with getting involved! its a great sport but really does need more interest! there were only 5 senior teams in the british this year and it really s sad to see! need to know anythign else just gimmie a buzz!!

gawd thats a long entry!!

:) Thank you! :)

Your entry should be a 'sticky' for "What is Team Gym"!

It sounds wonderful - and very difficult! Requirements for doubles and 360 twists off everyone? Nasty!

It is exactly the sort of thing that I'd love to be able to do, but never be able to manage. But if anybody in this area ever wanted a laugh, I'd gladly make a fool of myself by trying!

(I've seen the floor bit. I thought that was the whole thing :o)

Glad it was of use to you! the requirement for doubles often isn't completed, even our british champs this year didnt bother with them! the fact is twists are worth a lot more and seem to be easier for most teams to do! until you start twisting doubles and things they're really not that much use! probably better to get that in the vault runs!

It is a good sport and i wish more teams competed, my team are the only one in the whole of the midlands and i thik its a real shame because loads of clubs who would be really good don't know enough about it to have a team! I should go touring and handing out a copy of my "sticky" shouldnt i! :D hehe

Not surprised about the doubles - I wondered!

But, well, you've sold it to me - it sounds wonderful!

If I'm ever near a club that caters for 23 year olds with:

a) no gymnastics experience (Grade 6 tramp only, not really a somi)
b) no sense of balance
c) no co-ordination
d) no fitness
e) a great sense of fear

.. then I'll be right along there! :D

hehe, well if it makes you feel better I only have a preliminary badge in trampolining!! I soon got far too scared for that and stuck with gym! :D
