What do people think of withdrawal of exemptions from doing Level 1 coaching courses? (for example for people who have award 9)
I think it's a devastatingly bad move. I don't see why there should be a requirement for people to waste time and money going though a course that, for trampolining, doesn't even cover you to put out a trampoline without being supervised (but at least you are allowed to do the mats and end decks!!!).
Does anyone have experience of the UKCC in other sports? Do other sports have a level 1 qual that's ... well... not so useful? I was going to look up the Ukcc ( http://www.ukcoachingcertificate.org/ )site to try and find out. Sadly, and rather unimpressively for an organisation that is behind a lot of change that it ought to be keeping up to date with communicating, it seems to have let it's site vanish off the face of cyberspace :(
I can't imagine how university clubs in particular will be able to survive. They are dependant on putting a continuous stream of suitable volunteers through courses to either L2 or preferably L3 level quickly, so that they can still coach for a couple of years before they leave.
They also have a tendancy to have a top heavy coaching requirement in that a great number of people have done trampolining before at some stage in their life and therefore get all the stuff an L1 coach can cover back up to scratch in a very short space of time.
Also, did anyone else know this was happening? Apparently it was communicated about 6 months ago, but for the life of me I've no idea where, and even specifically trying to find it I can't see it mentioned anywhere.
