It has come to my attention through takling to a few people that a lot of you gymnasts and coaches out there arent farmiliar with team gym! I think this is really sad so, a gift from me to you, a post telling you all about it! well senior womens rules anyways given thats what im most farmiliar with!

And yes it is posted elsewhere but i figured more people woudl get to it if its on its own!! Here ya go, christmas come early! :p

3 pieces, trampette, tumble and and floor

trampette, 3 runs take place, in each run, 6 members of the team must complete moves over the trampette. of these 3 runs atleast 1 must be a vaulting run. Therefore you can either have 1 vault run and 2 just trampette runs OR 2 vault runs and 1 trampette run! there is a compulsory run whereby everyone in the team must complete the same move. In the other 2 as i meantioned in my other post "intensification" should occur, if this does not happen then big deductions come into place!! There is also a compulsory requirement for double somersaults by every member of a team in one run or alternatively somersaulting vaults, as well as this there should be one run where all members of the team complete atleast 360 twists.

tumble, 3 runs take place, in each run 6 members of the team must complete tumbles consisting of atleast 3 moves joined together. of these 3 runs there must be atleast 1 forward run, so like with trampette there must be either 1 or 2 forwards or backwards run and the one thats left is the other.... make sense? Like trampette also there has to be a compulsory run and in the other 2 intensification! There are also bonus marks available for paricular combinations for example somersault somersault. (under new senior code however the sommies must change shape or the second is not counted as a different move!)
Tumbles should be completed within 15m on a carbon fibre track and there is a compulsory requirement for atleast 1 run containing ATLEAST 360 twists from every member.

Floor: floor routines must contain ALL members of the team, (which by the way can contain from 6 to 12 gymnasts each atleast 15 in the year of competition!) it should be between 2 1/2 and 3 minutes long, containing comulsory elements of 2 spins, 2 jumps, 2 balances and 2 body waves as well as atleast 6 different shapes created in the choreography. Dance should be original and changes of tempo should occur where possible! all gymnasts must be moving at all time so go easy on the cannons, isolated body movements, so say only wiggling your arm, can get very heavily deducted and be careful not to overuse the same choreography! judges don't seem to much like that either!

I think thats most of the things you need to know when you're starting out.... If you want to know more about specific moves try to grab yourself a code of points! And go for it with getting involved! its a great sport but really does need more interest! there were only 5 senior teams in the british this year and it really s sad to see! need to know anythign else just gimmie a buzz!!

I've seen it in action at a lower level - I think it's one of those activities that's more fun to do than watch! (at least, at the lower levels).

The problem in this country is that very few places can cater for the proper size floor which, I believe, should be something like 14 x 20 metres (don't take that as gospel but it was something I was told by a guy from Continental ages ago and I'm getting old so the memory's not what it was:o .

Pink_Heffalump: what size floor do you train/compete on & does it need to be sprung or is matting adequate.

I assume the "2 balances" is individual elements such as "Y" scale (wine glass) balance, arabesque etc? (unfortunately acro people automatically think of someone balancing on someone else!;) ).

At least you don't need a full length tumble track - that helps the few clubs in our region that do TeamGym because there's nowhere within our region that has both a full length tumble track and proper floor area.

well I'm ucky enugh to train at lilleshall so we do have a full length track but we only ever use half of it so u defo dont need the biggest one! as for floors i dont think teres any club that has a permenant full sized team gym foor! portsmouth british champs for 6 years (?) only have an artistic floor and thats their speciality piece!

As for balances they can be anythign from.... headstands, to russian levers to yscales!you get em all in there!

And anita you need to get yourself to a higher level comp! cus its a really good spectator sport i think! i cold watch it all for hours! :P

An eight year old would b in the primary team. Im not sure how big the floors supposed to be, we have one but its not set up all the time, its bigger than the artistic floor, and the tg floor is not sprung its padded so u rnt allowed any ariel moves in your routines.
