Didn't you just really feel sorry for Beth last night! I bet her knee was hurting after whacking it on the leg of the beam after her Korbut, she actually cut it didn't she, you could see when she moved the ice pack off her knee. Just think how many times she must have done that move perfect in the gym, and her front somi :(

Hang in there Beth, another 4 years and you'll show 'em all!

Beth, as always, was a credit to us. I actually saw the routine and it was such a shame when she fell but her attitude is amazing - no matter how disappointed she must have felt she was still able to smile. Still 19th in the Olympics is some feat they many can't manage.

Should also mention Katy who also performed well.

Beth was brilliant and everyone should be really proud of her, and Katy Lennon did fantastic, she did brilliant making the top 24 and did really, really well. We should all be proud of both of them, and all the rest of the British team as well.

Well done everybody :D

(PS - if somebody like Beth can come off beam at the Olympics, I don't feel too bad falling off at my novice comps now!!!)

Gary Kirby was on our local radio last night, said he spoke to Amanda Kirby and she was telling him Beth wasn't her usual self before the all round finals, like normally Beth loves comps but she wasn't as excited (or something like that) before this one 'cos she still seemed upset about not qualifying bars final. They even said on radio that she's considering her future as a gymnast because she's so upset with her results at Athens. And she said something like that herself when they interviewed her after the all round didn't she.

Don't give up Beth, you can still show them all what you can do - you've been sooooooo brilliant for womens gymnastics, we all think you're brilliant!!

Everyone has off days and it is really unfortunate when it happens at a competition (at any level). I remember how hard it is to regain your composure after falling off the beam, it was always my least favourite piece. I'm sure once the dust has settled she'll be back up there training harder than ever to make sure she's perfect for the next comp.
Beth and Katy really are stars for qualifying in the first place and I hope they don't forget that. :D

Yeah, I fell off beam in a comp before xmas ... on my arabesque!!! I was nearly in tears when I went to sit down 'cos it was such a stupid move to fall off on. Was even worse when I found out I came 4th, and if I hadn't fallen off on my arabesque (it was stupid, my ankle just sort of fell over to the side for no reason and I overbalanced  ) then I would have had the silver medal!

The only thing that stopped me from crying was that I got bronze on bars, bronze on floor and bronze overall, but the silver on beam would have been nice. It does make you feel really bad, but it must be worse for Beth at the Olympics doing that!

I know how you feel, it's horrible falling off on easy things. It always seems to be the move you were least worried about that causes the most problems. When I was quite a young gymnast I fell off on a V sit on beam. It was only a bit of dance really and I just wobbled off the side. Must be awful when it's on tv and you know so many people are watching. I felt really sorry for Khorkina in the bars final too. She did all the hard parts and fell on a relatively simple part.

Yeah it really was a shame for her, she must be really disappointed 'cos this will be her last Olympics won't it. At least Beth is still young and can have another go at it in 4 years time.

And yes it is awful falling off on easy things (like V sits!!! LOL!!!) Worst thing was my arabesque is really nice (or so my coach always tells me, if they need someone to demonstrate arabesque on beam at gym they always get me to do it, it's one of my best moves on beam normally!) so I was dead upset falling off doing that ... the V sit is funny though, though I don't think you would have thought that when you fell off!!
:D
