What is everyone's opionion on a gymnast's weight/size? I'm not exactly "fat" but i'm not considered small and light, and a typical gymnast size. It doesn't bother me, but sometimes i feel that this is being held against me? After all, if i fall, my coach has to catch me.

Does size really matter? No.

List of things that really matter (As exhaustive and universal as I can think of):

Most importantly:
- Do you enjoy taking part in gym?

Possibly not always given enough importance (but I'm as guilty of that as anyone!):
- Can you take part in gym without causing your health any damage?

Nothing else I can think of that really matters.

i suppose size shouldnt really matter as long as u enjoy what ur doing! but i still get self conscious when im at gym especially as alot of gymnasts are smaller than me! i suppose in other environments im not big but i feel it at gym!

Interesting question this is; if we consider the perceived "size", this will change from person to person. When I saw the question I immediately answered of course it does! My thoughts were aimed at the "Artistic" lot and considered whether it would be possible for tall gymnasts to swing around some of the equipment, but I guess it isn`t hence the shortness of the gymnasts.
However in R.G. height appears to be a pre-requisite to give the perception of elegance, funny enough though trampolinists tend to come in all shapes and heights where ability seems to be the over riding factor.
My sympathy goes to Sian for having to feel that there maybe a need to consider dimensions other than height, shame on them I say!!
