Recently I've been thinking about setting up a gymnastics society at my University, but I'm not sure how the whole thing will be set up in terms of BG.
Are we classed as a separate club? What about insurance? etc.
Does anyone have a gymnastics society at their University and do they know roughly how it works?
Thanks

Hi loopyloz

We have a gymnastics club at my uni (Birmingham). As far as i know in terms of insurance with BGA you get insured as a club- rather than having everybody applying seperately. There are special rules because you don't compete in "normal competitions" only university ones. If you contact BGA telling them that you're a uni gymnastics club they'll be able to tell you the specifics. But i'll try and find out more info for you.

Plus which uni are you at?? If you do manage to set up a gymnastics club, we hold an invitational copmetition.

Thanks for the information. I'll get in contact with BG and see what they tell me.

I'm at the University of Liverpool, hopefully might be able to get a joint society set up with John Moores. It'll get more people joining anyway.

What sort of levels are the competitions by the way, because I havent done artistic gymnastics for years (I ended up in TeamGym until I got shin splints and had to quit).

Loopyloz - were you aware Beth Tweddle is now a John Moores student?

Am not entirely sure she'll be able to compete for your uni tho, as Uni of Liverpool and John Moore's are seperate institutions. If she competes at BUSA. She'll have to be entered under them.

But it would be fab if she trained with you.
