Hi everyone
I'm doing my club coach course in August and just wondered how people got on who've done it. Think I know roughly what to expect and I'll get lots of information when I do it but personal opinions would be cool. Also, what are the written exams like?

Hi Dave, cheers for the reply. I know courses are over two weekends and you cover the syllabus with the instructor (usually a HPC I think). Not sure which moves are covered but think it's things like giants on bars, flic on beam etc. Sure there's loads of weird and wonderful stuff I've never heard of. Not sure about the exams though. Think there's a practical and two written tests but I'm sure everything will become clear on the course.

You can buy the syllabus and the logbook etc from BGA.

If the WA course is like acro there will be a practical exam and two written ones: a general paper and a sport specific paper which, according to my daughters, is harder than the general paper.
In our region the log books are given out on the course - it might be worth checking first before you buy one.

Thanks for all the info guys. The moves don't sound too bad but lots to learn. I think I was given the log book and syllabus on my assistant cc so hopefully will be the same this time.

Hi Sarah! By the sounds of it your already well prepared for your course. I took mine last year in March. I must admit that when we first got there we didn't know what had hit us. We were expecting learning to coach a round off flic and were a bit disheartened when we left after the first day. Our tutor rushed through each move and we were thrown in the deep end with a lot of it. BUT this was only becuase we wasn't expecting such a syllabus. It seemed there was a massive leap from assistant club coach to club coach.
However we stuck with the course and tried to learn the theory. Day of the exam came and it was a breeze. After so much worrying and nerves there was no need for it all. You just show some preps and how to support the moves that your tutor and coach at gym has taught you and the examiner walks around the gym watching the other candidates as well. You may get asked a few questions but they are quite straight forward. The theory is all multiple choice and most answers are common sense. At least if you don't know you have a 1 in 4 chance of gussing right. Basically after this long essay I'm trying to say go for it and even if it feels a bit daunting with the amount of material they give you to learn, in the end its really not all that bad at all. xxx

Thanks for all the information from everyone. I've finished my course now and while it was quite challenging, there wasn't anything that was too much of a shock thanks to all the info I got before I went. There is a big jump from assistant though. I think some of the moves should be moved to the assistant course to make more time for the harder skills. I mean you go from a sissone jump straight to a roundoff tuck back dismount! Anyway, thanks again everyone.
