Okay new members - what do you think of it so far?

I like the look of it myself:)

But I've lost all my old blobs :( and gone back to being a Junior Member:( . Another couple of years and I might manage to work myself up to a Grand Anorak status;) .

These have been disabled it seems. Maybe once the forum has been sorted out they can be activated if asked nicely :)

we still can't look at people's profiles! :(

I think we can. Click on Member's List at the top, and then click on a username. Or click on a member's name in a thread, and a list should come up. Click on View Public Profile to see their profile.

:D ah thank u, DJC you're the forum wizard now hehe!

DJC
1st June 2004, 10:12 PM
Hehe, I like to help :) (and I've got nothing better to do right now except revision, but sshh!)
The only profiles you cannot see are those of registered but not yet validated users (if you click on 'Welcome to our newest member, [NAME], then a message saying 'You do not have permission to access this page' will be displayed if they have not yet been validated). Just noticed this thread has become a 'Hot thread' http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/statusicon/thread_hot_new.gif

Edit: pinkcandy, avatars are disabled, but you can have a 'Profile Picture'. Go to User CP (http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/usercp.php?), then select Edit Profile Picture (http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/profile.php?do=editprofilepic) under 'Settings & Options'. It has to match the criteria though (< 64 KB or < 100*100 pixels).

It'd be nice if more people added that extra bit of info - nice to know hobbies, their "link" to gymnastics (even if only a fan), their region etc.

DJC - I assume your revision related to computer forums ;) - if it is I'm sure you'll have no problem passing that exam.

DJC
2nd June 2004, 12:48 AM
No the computer forum was an alternative to my revision. Closest I get to to having to revise computers is my IT exam. However, there is so little about IT it's pointless. Most of the questions are about health and safety and common sense things. I just thought I'd do a few things to get the forum tweaked before more members sign up.

i know what you're saying about the I.T exam in my one last year everyone fell asleep half way through i remember looking up and just seeing everyone lying on their desks. Saying that it was the last GCSE everyone was pretty fed-up. yay i have only got 2 more exams left!!!!

All the peeps from the old forum have gone!!!! Noooo!!!

Anita
3rd June 2004, 11:24 AM
They're all gradually signing up again - hopefully we won't lose too many that won't or can't join.

Wonder how many are using a new "handle" to the one from the old forum?

Are there any members on here that had a different name on the old forum? If so, what was it (that way we'll know which "old friends" have joined).

Elliot
3rd June 2004, 11:27 AM
I am ninth in the posts rankings - highest ever!!!

Elliot

I was *Sam* on the old board but didnt really post that much :o

Elliot

Hopefully I will get to be an Assistant Grand Anorak. I don't think I have as many posts as you though Anita.

I feel so proud of myself - I'm third!!!!!

Consecutive posts, one line posts, pointless posts to increase post count = SPAM

I'm known for talking too much :p

 Have just noticed - someone's used a five-letter word on the forum! Clue: begins with H, ends with s and is ill in the middle. Sorry couldn't resist.

Sian
3rd June 2004, 01:35 PM
I'm slowly getting used to this now... was validated this morning :) formerly known as skyhigh_shaz, I've become that little bit more original and my new user name is *pause for dramatic effect* Sian. Lol I apologise for the randomness, but the alternative is science revision for monday!! Hopefully more people will join up.

Sian

Anita
3rd June 2004, 01:39 PM
Hi Sian - glad you joined. I'd have to admit science revision definitely doesn't sound exciting but good luck for Monday.

Sian
3rd June 2004, 01:44 PM
Thanks, I'm going to need all the luck I can get!! I missed three months of work when i was in hospital and house-bound and managed to catch up on every subject except science. Lol these smilies are great!! Anyways... back to revision...

Dave
3rd June 2004, 01:48 PM
Im Sure you'll do Ok Sian just keep studying like mad.....;)

Sian
3rd June 2004, 01:51 PM
You make it sound so easy!! I tend to lose interest. Like now, I was revising, honestly! And now it would seem I have appeared on the forum... whooops!

Dave
3rd June 2004, 01:55 PM
I Know the feeling there Sian im meant to be studying for an exam which is tomorrow afternoon but i've just agreed with my manager to move it ! Its alright for some eh..... Shame you can't move your exam.... :D

Anita
3rd June 2004, 01:59 PM
Think daughter No 1 would also agree (about moving exams) - don't think she did a lot of revision for her last one and is now worried ....

She's currently at Uni working on her final piece for this year - she's got to make a CD Rom about her course so far and include on it pieces she's already done during the course, including videos and web pages .....

Dave
3rd June 2004, 02:04 PM
All i can say to that is rather her than me :D

Sian
3rd June 2004, 02:10 PM
And just to think I still have all that to come!! :(

Dave
3rd June 2004, 02:14 PM
Your benefit in the long run but like most of my friends who went on to uni, you will be in serious debt.....

So how's the studying going ?

Sian
3rd June 2004, 02:20 PM
Studying...? erm well its going ok so far, just struggling with science, well physics to be more precise. Hoping to do biology next year for A-Levels, which kind of adds to the pressure!!

Anita
3rd June 2004, 02:27 PM
The debts are worse if you live away from home. Bex still lives with us and we support her although she pays her own uni fees (I pay for the running of her car, apart from petrol & her gym fees) - and she owes about £10,000 from student loans:( but doesn't have an overdraft to go with it, like some.

Dave
3rd June 2004, 02:29 PM
I Used to love science when i was at school espically when we used to get bunsen burners out and set things on fire....:p ( Not recommend though )

Sian
3rd June 2004, 02:29 PM
Ah no!! I was hoping to look into Loughborough Uni... but that certainly isn't anywhere near home! well I have a few years to do some serious saving...

Sian
3rd June 2004, 02:31 PM
I think everyone has set something on fire with a bunsen burner at some stage during their school years!

Dave
3rd June 2004, 02:34 PM
I think your right there ! One thing thats not recommend is opening the gas tap and setting that on fire ! One of my mate did so and all hell broke loose although it was very funny at the time looking back it was foolish and childish i wouldnt advise it to anyone.....
If you planning on going to Uni i'd start saving everyhting you can as its easy to spend money while at uni ( And i never even went ! )

Anita
3rd June 2004, 02:35 PM
I remember my brother getting the cane because he laughed when someone set the gas on fire as it came out of the gas tap and shot flame down the table! See what you missed being born in more lenient times?

Sian
3rd June 2004, 02:36 PM
Lol of course...

Dave
3rd June 2004, 02:37 PM
Im glad i missed it as i think i would of got the cane on more than 1 occasion....

Sian
3rd June 2004, 02:42 PM
I would like to say I'm good but... perhaps two occasions?! However, I can safely say, I have not set our science room alight! Anyways, I am going to go now, not to do revision unfortunately, but shopping! Lol bye!

Anita
3rd June 2004, 02:50 PM
It's worth thinking about taking a year out before going to Uni to save some money - my daughter's friend did that and reckons it's been a great help.

As for the cane - I never got that myself: had a few detentions though and got very close to a suspension for drawing a sketch and writing a poem about my Maths teacher - it started "Angus is a great scotch twit ......" and that was the politest line of the lot.:D Got caught because on of the lads couldn't stop laughing at it - spent a triple maths lession standing in a draughty corridor with him :( before being hauled before the headmaster  . My punishment was being moved to a lower maths class - and I ended up with a better teacher and getting a top grade :D .

PS - maths was my best subject at school.

Dave
3rd June 2004, 02:50 PM
Have fun shopping while the rest of us are stuck at work....:(

DJC
3rd June 2004, 03:03 PM
Have fun shopping while the rest of us are stuck at work....:(Not me :p Although I do have a lot of revision to do... I'm avoiding it again though :o Still 3 days till my next exam.

Dave
3rd June 2004, 03:42 PM
Have fun revising DJC im glad im past that stage in my life although i have to study for courses/exams work send me on...

Gingerheid
3rd June 2004, 09:52 PM
The thought of the debt was alone enough to put me of going to university.

The other thing people like is experience, and I pinned my hopes on the idea that having been working for a few years, I'd have managed to work my way up into a graduate entry level job by about the time I'd have been out University.

My hopes were set on making it before I was 23 and touch wood (touches head) I made it, but only by a week - I was starting to get worried!

I would have gone if I'd been wanting to do something that was essential for a particular directly related job, like medicine or teaching, though.

(PS. What did the thread start off as being about? Can anybody remember?)

Sian
3rd June 2004, 10:16 PM
erm the new forum i think!! but then i was talking about the revision i was supposed to be doing... supposed being the key word!!

DJC - take it you are in year 11? with science monday afternoon?! argh!!

DJC
3rd June 2004, 10:54 PM
Yep that's right - it says so in my profile :)

Sian
3rd June 2004, 10:57 PM
well i'm a tad bit slow... maybe i'll get round to reading it now!!

Dave
4th June 2004, 09:23 AM
I totally agree with you there Gingerhead as i had the same idea...... and TBH im glad i never went to Uni now as i would be in debt and most likely have been kicked out......
Sian hows the revision going ?
Anyways back to what the thread is about " New Forum " - Its great !

Pinxi-Laura - I used to say that but added the proviso "as long as it's not rude".

A guy from our technical committee calls me Barbie: that's because he was convinced my husband's name was Ken (as in Barbie & Ken:)) - you can imagine how he felt when I told him his name is Alan :o and he had to get a National competition programme amended (we're both part of the National marshalling team and listed as such).
