It be interesting to know what everyone thought !

I'm not sure, but am I right in thinking that GG is a discipline and not gymnastics in general as Dave might be thinking?

GG is a discipline - basically it's floor and vault for competitions but people at our club that took a GG course covered all the kinds of stuff you'd teach rec kids.
As for which is best - SPORTS ACRO RULES! well, for me anyway!

That's what I understood you meant. I think what the problem is, is that you've posted it in the General Gymnastics forum, which is not general discussion about gymnastics, but a discipline itself. It includes TeamGym and GMPD but I don't know much about it. My favourite is Men's Artistic anyway :)

I do both trampolining and WA and love both loads, but thinking trampolining may take over as my fave at the moment 'cos training's going really good!

Well I would have to say WA, but I havnt competed for about three years. I'm hoping to join GMPD and compete there... but until then, and if that day ever happens... its WA for me :D

Hey There! I'm back in me beloved GG forum atlast i mangaged to find my membership number!! hehe
Genral gymnastics is sort of a discipline.... more a rnage of them! many forms of genral gymnastics are non competative and thats what festivals and display squads come under so I'm told, another one within GG is indeed team gym which is my personal love! This is a competative discipline and the british championships for this sport is ever growing with new teams all the time! so any questions n just ask! I'll always do my best to help!

I woudl have joined up sooner if it wasn't so darned hard to find my membership number! My bag was stolen earlier this year... it had my walet in there which contained my membership card! It took me accidentally stumbling across the letter that acompanies the springboard magazine from who knows when to find my number! but now im back and most definately bad! hehe

Lovely to see you back pink_heffalump:) .
:( Sorry to hear about the bag - hope you didn't lose too much with it. It's all the "personal" things, especially if you don't get them back. A colleague had hers stolen a few months' ago and it had to diary in it with all her contacts, tel nos etc in it - and her house keys: she had to have all the locks changed. Hope no-one ever steals mine: my husband reckons I have everything but the kitchen sink in it:o .

Naaa not too much.... only half a years PE notes!!! the written irreplacable kind! hehe thankfully i did alright in my exam which i had just before the bag was nicked, so for now i can live without them!
My wallet wouldlnt even have normally been in there only it was a mufti day at school so i didnt have my blazer to stick it in.... tight jeans with a big bulgy wallet isn't an entirely attractive look! cost me quite a lot though! had to get the locks changed on the house because there was a house key and address in there!!

Ooooh, not good, sounds like a lot of hassle. It's good to see you back on the board anyhow.
My fave has got to be Team Gym I really enjoyed doing that and I was halfway decent before I got shin splints, lol. And TeamGym is still fun to watch, even though joining in is better.

TRAMPOLINING - I refuse to listen to anyone who says otherwise.

You've been listening to me :) .
Like trampolining but sports acro is my first "love". My pet hate: Sports Aerobics (sorry Imnoangel :) ).

I think I saw Sports Aero in Cardiff once. Is it with two people prancing about in leotards and trainers on a square set of mats?
Anita
18th June 2004, 02:53 PM
Yup! Can be more than two though. Think it looks strange wearing a leotard with trainers! Might be good and interesting and all that but ..... I think it's more "keep fit" than gymnastics.
Elliot
18th June 2004, 02:55 PM
Yeah, thats what I thought. My sister got these keep fit videos and the people on there look so stupid - it was hilarious.

Anything could be pointless if you aren't doing it yourself (Darts...)
It looks OK I thought! And I'm presuming it's as different from the naff keep fit videos against fake back-drops as tramp is from the one that happens in peoples' back gardens!

Those videos are an insult to sports aerobics! ;)

Having done artistic for nine years my daughter tried sports aerobics and bought me home a video to watch. I spent the entire time waiting for them to do some sort of back flip or something but all they seemed to do was bounce around the floor (and this was the British Championships)!! I also couldn't stand the music - it must be something to do with age. Luckily enough she was watching her younger sister doing sports acro and moved on to that - much more exciting to watch, although watching her being thrown into the air and performing a double pike before landing is pretty nerve wracking to say the least!!!

Though a trampolinist (of sorts), I'd have to admit that ever since the day I first happened to see Sports Acro (when I was in a sports centre waiting to play the bagpipes at the presentation for a sailing competition,) I've thought it was the best sport you could ever possibly imagine. I've never seen anything that looks quite so good.
Even though I'm now much too old (or should I say much too weak, unco-ordinated, inflexible and crocked :o ) I shall still be seeing if there's anywhere in Aylesbury I can have a last chance to try it, to see if it looks like I could ever manage anything!
Tumbling looks very good to - I'd always love to be able to do that!
But of course trampolining is fun ... and easy :)
The fact that I've just seen that men in Sports Aerobics wear outfits that make male trampolinists look very very lucky puts me off a bit  but I'd say that otherwise it looks like it could be fun to take part in.
Edit:
Awww.
Reading this thread I'm wondering if I'm the only one who hasnt been badly injured (broken bones, dislocations, tendons snapping, etc) while doing gymnastics.
Mind you, there is also obviously something to be said for Team Gym!

Just a bit of fun but that is what it is all about is it not? How can we encourage youngsters to participate, be more active and get fit if it is not fun?
Well with the new membership scheme I can't see us having much FUN without it costing the earth.
If the BGA carry on like this then I think we "the chosen ones" should create a General Gymnastics Federation. "Recreational" gymnasts would only need to register with this group as a nominal amount and be able to participate where-ever and with whoever they wish.
How's about that then?

trampoline is the best but then I would say that since I haven't tried anything else and don't really intend to at my age and grade.

With WA there is more variety, and to watch it at the highest levels is fab.
But trampolining is way more fun (gym is too serious!!!), just not so much variety.
I think if i was lucky enough to see it live though, i may say differently ... I get amazed just watching doubles done before my eyes!!!
TRAMPOLINING wins though by far :p :D

My heart will always belong to Women's Artisitc as a spectator, but starting as an adult beginner it would be an awful lot easier to do something else! I am a bit concerned about the new move towards apparatus specialists and how this will affect top-level competitions. In fact, I feel a new thread coming on...

Trampolining every time, though I used to do gym (always hated beam!!) and loved the little bit of tumbling I got to do (only had one go at a tumbling comp at Huntingdon years ago) and having trained on normal floor mats (not sprung) it was a real pleasant shock to get a go on a sprung strip...suddenly I could do tuck backs instead of just whip backs.
But now I'm probably a bit past tumbling and gym, though once my knee's sorted out I'll be taking a trip to letchworth just to have a bit of a play and see what I can still do.
