I fell off at one comp just going toget off the trampoline. (In warm ups) Someone had left a push in mat leaning against the trampoline. I misjudged where i stepped and trod on the mat rather than the trampoline frame. the mat promptly collapsed and i fell off the side onto the floor. Successfully freaking out a whole trampoline of people.
But thats not properly falling off.

I almost fell off doing crash dive ball out. I came off the bed at a funny angle out of my CD, could see myself hurtling towards the corner and did a ball out in the hope that i would land on my feet on the floor as opposed to my head. Luckily i had a fab mat pusher who got the mat in over the springs and i've never seen my coach move so fast, he caught me and stopped me on top of the mat.

I've cleared end decks several times- but theres always been another trampoline there (luckily~) Doing things like s/back, s/barani, full and 1 3/4 ss, barani ball out ( normally into backward roll over the end deck

My full fronts and rudis are also quite good for the occassional crash- although i've improved them loads recently so they don't crash anymore

Yeah i've fallen off at comps ... Just like you Rosie - while getting off the trampoline!!!
At my club we don't have any Eurotramps, so our mats lie flat over the springs!!!
Anyway there goes me bounding off the trampoline at the end of my routines, tripping on the stupid stick-up mats, and falling off head first!!!
Luckily my coach was there to catch me both times!!!
Apart from that i've only ever cleared the trampoline once - i got shouted at and told to get off while i was warming up because i did a back somi and we hadn't been told to, so on my out-bounce i jumped onto the mats covering the springs, but misjudged it slightly ...
From full height i jumped off sideways, clipped my heels on the side of the trampoline to line me up for a perfect seat drop on the floor!!!
Very very funny :D
Very very sore bum and back :D
Lol!!!
Although i think the best one has to be my friend/coach (who gets extremely nervous in comps) gaining a double back (yes GAINING) so that she flew right over the end decks, missed the mats on the floor and landed totally straight on the actual sports hall floor to a big round of applause and much shock at the fact she just walked off perfectly fine!!!
Hehehe!!!

I was under the impression that it was a prerequisite to be a trampolinist.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon10.gif

I have fallen off occasionally, it scares the heck out of people cos I am quite a big bloke. I was at a comp some time ago and the spotters were all fairly small and looked a bit concerned, before I sarted my routine I looked at them and said "if you think I am going to fall on you, run away!"

Hehehehe!!!
Yes very true Pete!!!
And Steve - when my coach Chris decided to try double backs in the rig (he used to be a gymnast), but on the trampoline can only just about manage a tuck back and does them really low and thrown - we all walked away and went and sat on the benches and laughed at him!!!
Although i had to tell him he did very well and wasn't at all the laughing stock of the day becuase i was relying on him to catch me a few minutes later!!!

So far I haven't done big enough moves or somies high enough to be able to fall off. :)

I take it you're writing that here safe in the knowledge that Chris doesn't use the net?

Have to say i agree Pete. Trampolining isn't fun unless you fall off occassionally.

Luckily i tend to clear endecks onto another trampoline rather than the floor. At activ8 (even tho i've never cleared an end deck there) make me do specific moves facing specific ways so if i clear an end deck i'll land on another treampoline. they just don't trust me:rolleyes:

Hi,

Iv come off doing a back somersault before, went straight up and back and came down feet first on someone spotting on the end of the trampoline, blacked his eye and hurt his neck, he had all the injuries not me! Saved me perfectly though haha!
And another time doing one on my travelling back-somersaults someone was stood on the end of the trampoline, i said "don't stand there im warning you, il land on you, he said "its ok, il catch you". I did warn him. I went up straight back, and kicked him straight off the end (by accident), and he went flying on the floor a bit winded i think! I was fine again, stood on the end saying..."I told you so"...i did warn him!!!

Ahhh i'm not too worried if Chris does use the net Gingerheid ... Hehehe!!!
He knows we laugh at him constantly!!!
And nice one Ceri!!!
Would have liked to have seen that!!!
Yes you are a bit mad aren't you Rosie!!!
Did you see my pike front the other week where i flew right over the dividing mat and almost landed on Naima who was at the far end of the other bed tying up her hair?!?!
Hehehe tiny bit embarassing for me!!!
Never mind - funny all the same!!!
Luv Kel!!!

I can't remember ever falling off while doing a move (though I do have a worrying tendancy to land on my head at the moment ) but I have fallen off while getting on and off the bed.

I think my most entertaining moment was jumping up (that sort of lean on one arm while trying to grab it with the other hand) to retrieve the mat off the bed and missing and ending up flat on my back under the tramp!

I remember when Katie went flying I thought it was amazing she even presented aswell hehe!! I fell off years ago cos i couldn't stop laughing, I managed to roll sideways of the end deck straight to the floor. Another time in warm up we had to do seat drop 1 1/2 twist and i put a lot of effort in, twisted it fine then just ran off the trampoline straight into one of the little ones who doesn't normally spot, but toda yshe decided she was going to for me! I felt so guilty because i actually caught my knee on her forehead, she was fine but....... ah well

Lol sounds tres amusante!!!
Sorry - it's the only French i can rememba and i haven't stopped saying it all day!!!
I got the hang of cat twists last night, but landed quite a few on the spring covers lol - little heavy me made quite a loud splat hehehe!!!
Awww i'd hate to land on one of the little ones for two (actually three) reasons:

1) they are really cute
2) they would probably forever after go on about be being a little heavy clumsy lump

AND

3) they would probably bite me :D

Lol!!!
I didn't actually get the joy of seeing Katie's dismount - just heard many accurate accounts of it, and obviously it's something i'm going to remember!!!
Hehehe!!!
See you soon!!!

Just tried a fliff ball out over the weekend [about fifteen years since I last had a go!] I went from crash mat, back drop to end deck back pullover to floor ran around and jumped back on the bed before the kids could close their mouths. Very funny!!http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon10.gif

I was considering trying that one, it was suggested I try it because of how early the twist in my corkscrew is (when I manage it) I think I might pass now!!

I am surprised to hear of so many trampolinists actually falling off during moves. It seems to me that you need some more coaching before you should be left alone to do these moves.

I was reading in yesterdays Sun newspaper how a boy fell and hit his head and later died after trampolining with a mate (I am assuming it was a garden trampoline) but this just goes to prove that fallin off is nothing big to show off about

Isn't it possible to fall off doing anything if your mind disconnects from your arms and legs or you seem to be feeling stuipid enough at the time? I've seen people fall off from doing a back drop... and I've landed on my head doing a front drop after I'd been doing them for years.

People trip in the street, and it's not as if they needed more coaching on walking...

PS - good to see there's tramp on the IOM - hope it goes well. Even adult tramp??? Superb! :) Hope the building gets sorted out soon!

I`m not too sure how much more coaching I require after all 30 years [20 years at national/international level] would seem suffcient to me after all failing and falling are all part of the learning process.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon7.gif
I must agree with you GingerheidPeople trip in the street, and it's not as if they needed more coaching on walking.

When I was in school a classmate who played in goal[football] died couple of days later after receiving a kick to the head resulting in very much the same, medical circumstances as the the young boy.

Unfortunately tragic accidents will still occur no matter what safety restrictions are put in place, but refering to my earlier comments there are controlled falls and uncontrolled falls and when nobody is hurt [as in the case of the former] then much mirth can be gleaned from the incident.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon10.gif

As funny as some incidents can be it's worth remembering that you don't have to fall off to do serious damage, landing badly on the bed can be so much worse. Fortunately the serious accidents are rare, in my mind due to the quality of coaching that exists in our sport.

Some years ago we lost a great talent in Aerial Skiing, following an accident on a trampoline. Have a look at Mike Nemesvarys' story (http://www.roundtheworldchallenge.com/team/mike.htm) as an example of the kind of injury that can occur but also of what can be achieved against the odds.

Well done on the cat twists, don't worry i'm sure the little ones wont really bite you!

Accidents happen from time to time, it's unfortunate that boy died, but as you said it was probably a garden trampoline, I believe they are highly dangerous. There isn't any professional supervision (unless the parent is a coach) and many accounts I have heard, the parents do not go outside and supervise either. I know that if garden trampolines were as popular when I was little my mum wouldn't have watched me every time and i would of been more tempted to attempt a "flip" then in proper structured lessons.

Mike Nemesvarys' story (http://www.roundtheworldchallenge.com/team/mike.htm) Some years ago the ski club where I trained decided that they wanted to do aerials/hot dogging, after a few mishaps on holiday they struck a deal we would teach them basic somersaults and in return we got the basics on skis.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon14.gif

One of the ski coaches got in touch with Mike Nemesvary some time after his accident and asked for his trampoline training skis now he couldn`t use them[Ooo sharp intake of breath!] Now I`m not sure whether it was shock or the sheer cheek but they arrived within the week!!

I was given the first chance of testing out the skis on the trampoline, baranis, backs and fronts were quite easy although fulls took a little more effort. After about five goes I promptly snapped one ski much to the dismay of the skiers, they sent for a spare from the hut just a tadge longer which resulted in another broken ski by me, they decided not let me have another go before they ran out of odd spares.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon10.gif

I must say it was good fun but hard work when you can`t use your feet to push out of the trampoline.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon11.gif

Does anyone know of anywhere in the West Midlands that does aerial skiing. I'd love to watch

Do you fancy having a go on the water ramp then Peter?
Jasmine, the only aerials training in the uk is at the water ramp in Sheffield. If you want to come and watch, or even have a go, you would be most welcome. Did you have a look at the links I put on the "call to retiring gymnasts" thread?

I don't want to take over this thread with Aerials stuff, so if anyone wants to add, or ask, anything about Ski Aerials the "call to retiring gymnasts" thread is in the general discussion forum and there is a "Ski Aerials" thread on the "welcome to Trampolining" site forum.

Steve, I`ve already been on a ramp!! It was me who posted about Skewbridge, that trip was organised once enough of us felt mad enough to tackle it.http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon10.gif

wow thanks Steve for letting me know, I would probably watch not join in because I am a wimp hehe. Wouldn't go diving with our trampolining Squad because i'm afraid of heights and wont dive, even though I absolutely love crash dive hehe. To me its totally different. My boyfriend might like to do it though, i'll mention it.

Cheers again

will hopefully be competing at the next comp ( my fingers are crossed ) but i do wana get my injury sorted out before i start trampolining again. :(

I have a feeling that it will be more mental than physical when i return coz im a bit of a wimp ( my coach would agree strongly!!! )

If i am competeing will be doing grade 4 U18's again!!! woz hoping to qualify this time round but doubting it now coz i dont fink im gona get my set up to scratch or my 4 tariff vol in time :(

Pretty sure i will have a practise competiton before grades tho if im fit enough.

Even if im not competing i will be there to support Dynamics and everyone else!!!
