In years gone by this was an event for all, a true world championships.
I went to New Zealand in 1992 and there was a Canadian guy who was aged 50 and became a bit of a celebrity and was feted on local tv, however things were to change and due to the nature of the beast downsizing came into play.
This meant that now doing the routine wasn`t sufficient a qualifying mark had to be obtained and the top four in each age group got selected [should you be able to afford to go!!]
Even though these new rules were set in place, those who made it and medalled gold were able to call themselves world champions for their age group.
Now [I`m getting to the point!!] in their infinite wisdom [ due sarcasm!] the FIG have down graded the whole effort by no longer allowing performers to have this opportunity by renaming it FIG Age group competitions.
Doesn`t really have the same effect on your trampoline C.V. does it?
We in Britain over the years have had many world champions synchcro and individual across all age groups and now thats gone, and it wouldn`t suprise me if it disappears altogether.
I apologise for the late night rant but I`m bloomin annoyed!!!!http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon8.gifhttp://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon8.gif
