I am cheesed off  because I have just heard that in the NW region there will be no more Grade comps for levels lower than Grade 4.

To compensate:rolleyes: for this there will be 6 tariff competitions per year rather than just two.
(Our club has always started people in grade comps at grade 5, and tariff comps with the full twist routine.)
I think that lower grades (at least Grade 5 anyway) should be part of the structure of Grade comps, and it gives people something to aim for in a structured way.

I think that if this is the way things are going forward then tariff comps need to be a lot stricter in terms of who can compete at what level - these comps give lower level people less chance of doing well as people often get entered in a category which has too low a tariff for their ability, and they obviously do very well (I would call this cheating).
People should only be allowed to compete using the tariff score which they most recently competed as a vol, or higher.

PHEW got that off my chest:mad: !!
What are other peoples opinions about this?

Hi Jacquie,
Is your information correct about the grades and did you get it from the "horse`s mouth" so to speak. I wouldn`t of thought they could implement extra tariff comps as compensation as this would mean there would have to be more than the usual suspects willing to to run comps.

That is to say that novice/tariff comps are usually run as financial fill-up for the clubs running them, I know most of the comp organisers that have been running tariff`s a number of times do build up a data base of whose done what and at what level, but as you say invariably there are always people trying to buck the system.

Heard it from the coach at training last night. The January Grade was a 3 and 4 only, and I am presuming he asked about the next one and was told this. He specifically said 6 tariff comps, so someone told him this - he's the type to say " I dont know" rather than make something up - but it wasnt from 'the horses mouth', so I'm not sure - if anyone reading this is from NW and does know if this information is correct I would love to know!

I think I'll email the website for West View Trampoline Club who are in NW and see if they know about it.

I'd say grade 6 is a nice place to start, seeing as that's what I'm used to!

I can see the point Baga is making although I think it is unfair, just because a performer can start at grade 4 doesn't meant that a grade lower shouldn't be considered to be a competition. I teach people who will never reach that standard and as a coach it doesn't bother me. As long as they are happy and putting effort into what they achieve I wouldn't push that their first competition had to be an event with four somersaults. I think it will prevent many people from enjoying the amateur aspects of the sport. I personally started at grade 7 and pleased that I did not only did I get experience of competitons, I had time to learn to improve form and acquire new skills so I could do the next grade. As a judge I see a lot of very neat over 18 g5 ladies, they have chosen not to go up to grade 4 that is there choice. Many grade 2's choose not to go up to g1 I think all regions should have at least g6 and appreciate that everybody had to learn those skills in order to get the good somersault basic.
