How does anyone get on doing trampolining and gymnastic events? I have difficulty with some of my gymnastic moves because I am so used to landing on a spot. I can't practice moves on the pit trampoline like the others in the group because I would come back down onto the trampoline edge, I just can't travel!

How can I mix these 2 disciplines more effectively?

I know that a trampoline club near us makes people choose gym or trampoline if they are to be in their squad - they wont have squad members who do both because they say it is detrimental to trampoline.

My 2 kids both recently started trampoline and my daughter (12) does rec gym, and hasnt had too much problem as she isnt a great tumbler anyway, and does ok with trampoline. My son who is 7 is in the competition class at gym and has had problems with mixing them - so I hope that someone comes up with helpful info - we thought about dropping the trampolining because his flics have gone terrible recently - too high vs long.

I do both and i don't have too many problems- ok i'm not amazing at either of them. You just have to kind of comparmentalise moves and think of them as completely different moves on the floor from the trampoline. Think of it as you know (for example) how to do two different types of tuckback, with different take offs and landings. Don't just think i can tuckback,, if you think of the moves as the same thing, you'll try and do them the same in both places and it doesn't work- i used to have that problem

We have a boy in our gym club who is 12 this year and does gymnastics at "elite" level and is grade 1 at trampolining - I think working at both disciplines has probably improved his performance at both. We use the trampoline to teach a lot of moves - flics, somersaults etc - the gymnasts perform them on the trampoline or from the trampoline into the pit - they learn to adapt their action depending on what they want to achieve.

The point about thinking about the moves as completely different on floor and trampoline is very important - the gymnast/trampolinist needs to be aware of the different requirements for what they are doing. This is relevant to many gymnastics/trampoline moves anyway, as the following movement may dictate how you need to finish a first move eg different action for round off flic as compared to round off tuck back.

i do both gym and tramp and compete at both! and i dnt find that its a problem! wen i first started it was a bit cos my somis used to travel quite alot - but now its all fine!! doin twist on floor at gym helped on a trampoline cos i find it really easy to spin - in both twist and double somis - seeing as im used to doing them on floor when u havent got as much time to rotate!
