BG membership is sufficiently expensive in any case without having to pay it out several times, however I have been told there is no way around this. I paid directly to BG for an associate membership, then I went on a coaching course which signed me up for Scottish Gymnastics. I am a member of 2 clubs and I have to join BG through each of those clubs also - is this right? Why? - surely I can just show them my card and that is enough.

One BG membership (your own) is enough. I'm not sure if Associate is enough for a coach though - I think I needed to upgrade to full when I took the course.

I'm sure you'll agree with me that Scottish do lots for your money and that the double membership with them is well worth it. If not, there must be a rant thread about it somewhere already?

You do need to upgrade to full after your coaching course. ( i had to after my judging course. However BG extended my just paid associate membership by 6 months- and i don't have to pay full membership fees till 2006 (and i have the paperwork to prove it)

I don't know if it is different in Scotland because we have Scottish Gymnastics to worry about too, but I don't need a full BG membership until I do the Club Coach, and I have a coach membership of Scottish Gymnastics. I made a mistake in my original post I have to join Scottish Gymnastics again through each of my clubs, not British - so the coach membership should be enough? I am confused! It seems the clubs don't work out what part of their fee is for membership so they can't take it off my class fee, but they are definitely charging me for it.

I am a club coach in Scotland, this year when I renewed I was advised through BG and SG that, with a BG Trampoline qualification, I must join BG but there was no further benefit in joining SG. (I was told this by SG) It seems the only reason to join SG is if you attend SG courses. Which means that a coaching course held in Scotland has an added expense on the same course south of the border, but you should only join both in years when you attend an SG course.

I don't know what the position is for those holding the old BTF/STF qualifications.

As head coach for Aberdeen Uni. I was advised by SG that the club needed to affiliate but there was no need for inividuals to join unless they wanted to take part in SG comps, as Scottish student comps do not need SG membership.

Competitors going to SG comps need SG membership, but there is no need for more than one, if you are in multiple clubs it might be worth joining as an individual, but I don't know for sure.

if you are an assistent coach then associate membership is ok, it is when you take the club coach cause you have to upgrade. and being a member of british gymnastics should be ok. you do not need more than one membership even if you are involved with 2 different clubs

i am currently linked with two clubs one at uni and one at home and i only need one membership. i also coached for about 3 years with associate membership before taking my club coaching course.
