Have you noticed how quiet the forum is nowadays? Why do you think this is?
There was no discussion about the WA Nationals in Kettering or Birmingham, nothing on Beth's medal and well, not a lot of discussion in general.
Why do you think that is?

Unfortunately, the people with the most to say on this subject won't be able to say it. :(
I know I've said it before - but never mind...
If posts from non BG members are being moderated anyway, why can't non-members post in all the boards rather than just the one?
If BG do feel that it really is necessary for posts made by non members to be moderated before being added, why don't they create more Administrator roles on the forum, purely with the authority to ok posts to be added? That way posts could be added quicker than the two or three days it seems to sometimes take. They know who all the members are, so none of us would want to let anything unsuitable be added. If they wanted to be super careful they could restrict the role to people that have some kind of qualification from them that they don't want to lose!
And then, if they had more people moderating the board, including by the nature of things at more times of they day... why not do things the other way around and just have more people that could delete a post promptly if it was unsuitable?

I dont think the site is easily accessible. I could be wrong but when I wanted to access the site for the first couple of times I could not find it on the baga home page, I had to google it. I think some people dont know about it, and a lot can not be bothered to register considering many other trampoline sites I know have forums and guestbooks to communicate. (dont know about gymnastics sites only look for trampolining usually)

I don't see that membership or otherwise makes you more or less likely to make inappropriate posts. Provided that people have to register for the forum then you can bar anyone who makes inappropriate posts. BG would have a large disclaimer (as they probably have, though i haven't noticed) saying stuff on the site is not their opinions. All they need next is a few volunteer moderators and bingo. I think more people are asking about alternative sites rather than that there are more/better ones out there cos they are sick of coming here and finding most sections receive a couple of posts a month. I wouldn't have been looking for other sites if this one was getting more hits.

Yeah - it was great before the latest "upgrade". For those who remember this was because of one troll: but rather than blocking them they made it a "closed shop" and we lost lots of friends who couldn't - or just plain didn't - come back. Shame.

This is something they seemed to lose sight of on the old forum.

Making it so that you have to register doesn't mean people won't troll, but I suppose they are less likely to, knowing that their real details are known.
Besides, I thought it (the insulting) made the forum much more interesting (shoot me, go on!) It was only because of one person who threatened with legal action (talk about over-reacting) that BG decided that only BG members could register.
I still don't see why bad members can't just get a username+e-mail+IP ban. And if we are sticking to this system, why not let guests post in all boards as Gingerheid has suggested many-a-time?

I also thought that the controversial matters made the discussions more interesting (though not the personal insults ..) and though I didn't agree with much of what was posted it made me think more about the issues myself. I still think that monitoring, editing and restricting offending users should be sufficient for a safe and intelligent forum.

What's the longest time this place has gone without a post?
I'm starting to wonder if the last person forgot to turn the lights out!

I`ve noticed it has gone very quiet across all the discussion groups for some time now, I must admit to being guilty of looking and not posting but then again could do with some juicy threads to get it rolling again!http://www.british-gymnastics.org/memberforum/images/icons/icon12.gif
