View Full Version : Different injury question

I know everyone is different and speak to my doctor and all the usual, but I wanted to get some personal perspectives. I had a really bad ankle ligament injury in May and I was told 4-6 weeks for general recovery and then "a while" before it feels normal again. It still hurts quite sharply when I do some really quite normal stuff, I can't kneel down because of the stretch to the ligament and it throbs and swells after every training session still. Is this about par for the course for such an injury? My doctors don't know much about gymnastics so it is of limited help asking their advice, they just keep saying come back in 2 weeks if it isn't any better. And I keep going back.

I would seriously recommed you visit your doctor and ask him to refer you to a specialist at a hospital for a proper examination...

I would also advise you take a further 4-6 weeks out of gymnastics and go see a physio to get some excerises...

One thing you have to remeber is when you get injured you cant go back to the gym after a period of absence and train as you did before it will take a good few weeks or more to get back to normal training

My daughter's managed to do both her ankles in at different times - they're both now OK but no thanks to the local hospitals. I paid for private physio from a sports injuries specialist: best money I've ever spent. What with the actual physio, exercises and advice she no longer has a problem.

I have just been to the docs who has signed me off work for 2 weeks and referred me for physio so hopefully I'll get sorted sooner rather than later. I never knew how annoying it is to be on crutches for so long. It's totally ruined my plans for the summer I was hoping to learn 1n3s and rudis over the summer (I did manage a couple of rudis before doing this!) but I'll just have to be patient and hope I haven't lost my nerve when I get the all clear to go back.
