I just got my uni exam results, and I passed them all. Am now extremely relieved and don't have to keep the resit fortnight free. *phew*
All I have to do now is work harder next year, especially organic chemistry :-s (lets just say that was a scraped pass) and go out and celebrate this year. I think thats a good idea.

Oooh, fantastic. We went on Air twice (now that is amazing! Really does feel like you're flying) Nemises, and Oblivion. Lot of other things too, like the Black Hole and Hex (I got rather disorientated on that). I got completely drenched on the Ripsaw, (more drenched than I was after the log flume or the rapids actually) it was a really sunny day so I think the people operating the ride decided to be mean and soak everyone, hehe. The haunted house was good too, they've put laser guns in the carriages so you can shoot the ghosts, I got a good score, oh yes, I'm a ghostbuster, lol.
All in all, a really good day and we had the weather for it too. And the queues for the big rides like Air and Nemises were quite short, although we couldn't get onto the Spinball Whizzer because we left it too late. The queue was about 90 mins long and the park was closing in 1/2 hr, so we left that and went to have something to eat.

Pink_heffalump: good luck with your exams, I never liked physics myself, I was more of a chemistry and biology kind of girl, lol. Well after this you should put your feet up and do some serious relaxing

My daughter's got her Acro SCC practical exam next week - she's been panicking about what she's going to have to teach (he colleague got some real nasties!). She got the papers yesterday and was really pleased as she knows she can teach them all because they're things she's either done herself or has been helping do in the gym anyway, so she's a lot more confident than she was (just hope she passed the written, but they won't tell her until after the practical ....).

At the moment I daren't book any time off 'cos I'm behind in my work. Until I get up-to-date I can't reasonably consider it as I get no cover.

We are supposed to have a five day turnaround on the typing - how the hell am I supposed to manage that if I'm on holiday for two weeks? You then come back from holiday to one heck of a backlog which will take months to claw back. Take my advice peeps - DON'T WORK FOR THE NHS.

So when you're sunning yourselves with your feet up think of us workers who have not had long holidays because they've been working for ..... 33 years in August! Roll on retirement - only another 16 years to go .......

Dave
18th June 2004, 02:15 PM
Thats the NHS for you Anita they are totally usless, Except of course for yourself and your co-workers ;)

33 years working ????? Jesus that a long time, i'vew only been working 4 years.......

Anita
18th June 2004, 02:38 PM
Yeah, I know - I'd have got less for murder ;) .

I realised how long it had been last year when I was contacted by an old school friend through Friends Reunited and we met up for the first time since we were 16: it had been 32 years  . She hadn't changed much (a few wrinkles and grey hairs) and it was like the 32 year gap hadn't really happened: we're hoping to go to Wales to stay with her and her hubby for a long weekend some time: when I can get my work up-to-date. And speaking of work, that's what I should be doing now ...........:o

Elliot
18th June 2004, 02:40 PM
Hehe. I get loads of time off while every1 else is in work. Mind you, I have to work on weekends and deal with loads of really annoying customers.

The simple solution would be to give up trying :) , but the trouble is you're always in some kind of job where you don't want to give up because there's people needing whatever your doing done :(

Never mind. Look on the bright side. Eh, ehm, the, ehm, NHS Pension scheme is a good one :D

Anita
18th June 2004, 07:58 PM
The only reason I joined the NHS and stay there is the pension scheme! Definitely not staff perks - there are none. You even have to pay for a parking permit (if you're given permission to have one) and park in a real rubbish car park (they call it temporary: I reckon it's more like a quarry).

Join the NHS and you can look forward to long working hours, really bad working conditions (secretaries and office staff at least) and equipment, poor pay, over work, stress, many managers who are where they are because they were rubbish in their jobs so were promoted to enable them to get workers who could do the job. Managers who are inept, rude and/or bully.

Perhaps I should add some bad things to say about working where I do ......

I was thinking of looking into physiotherapy... but for the time being, i am waiting to get a job in my local sports centre. thrilling!!

I started as a casual in the Civil Service through a job agency. I couldn't get any work at all where I come from, so I went to Edinburgh to look and it just happened to be the first job I found.

Shortly after that I found myself sitting answering the phone to oldish people with no pension who were desperate to do something about it. I also saw lots of cases pass through my hands on their way to the (very over-worked) mis-selling team, where people had been encouraged to leave a public sector scheme.

As I was sitting there with no pension whatsoever, the whole thing rather affected me and I became rather desperate to get myself into a permanent job with a good pension! That's how I ended up in the Civil Service, and I must say I intend to stay in it as long as possible. Ie - if it still exists in 42 years time, ...

Sian - I was actually so impressed by the wonders the physiotherapist was able to work that I would have loved to become one and was seriously thinking about trying to get into it. It's an amazing thing to be able to do for people.

But since I've now just got myself into a job with about the same starting salary, giving it up to spend years running up debt trying chase something else is a bit out the question now :(
