Me being the gymnast I am, I'm relatively muscley, I also happen to be around 5'7" (not ideal gymnastic height!!) This combination does mean I look kinda chunky!

Now i havent posted this to have a lot of people go, "I'm sure you look fine be happy with how you are!" but to see if anyone does know any practical ways to try to well... loose muscle i guess!

I would prefer it if any possible solutions didnt involve me being a lazy bum for 3 months letting all my muscle waste then tryin to get rid of the fat! But who knows.... may be the only option!!! eek! So yeh any ideas people?!

;) Hehe, I'm not sure. Eat less protein I suppose. Don't do overload conditioning. Don't you need the muscle being a gymnast though?

I don't quite know what to say, or how best to say it, but surely you can't purposely make yourself less fit and less healthy because you think you might look better that way?

I know how you feel, I had the same thing a while back, I had quite muscly thighs and i didnt like the size of them, same for other parts of my body. But I've been sitting and not doing a lot since I stopped doing gym and a lot of that muscle has turned to fat (I've always ate junk it's just catching up with me now). Believe me muscly is best, I'm gonna get exercising again.

Boy, I wish my daughter had your problem! No matter how much conditioning she does she just stays skinny and can't seem to muster up any muscle from it - but I believe this is a genetic thing she's got from her dad (I've got more muscles than him!)

When I did gym, I used to have quite a large neck, shoulders and thighs. When I gave up gym I took up squash (3 times a week - double sessions ... very energetic!), that seemed to really tone down the muscle quite considerably, and stopped it from turning into fat instead! Problem is I don't suppose you're considering giving up gym though are you!

Yes I really do wish I had that problem of being too muscly, I'm always dead jealous of muscly girls at gym, it doesn't seem to matter how much conditioning I do I just can't seem to grow any muscle or get strong like I need to be. And I'm tall for my age too with quite long legs, so having no muscle is a real problem sometimes!

I'm jealous! If you want to get rid of some muscle can you give it to me please :p

You'd be more than welcome to it! might be a slighlty messy oporation however!

I am a very powerful person i guess, i do tumble and trampette and conditioning and well thats it! kinda leads to muscleyness however i seem a lot lot more stocky than mosta my team mates! darndit skinny people! :P

I've got another year an home then I should *fingers crossed* be off to uni.... maybe i should search for the local squash club wherever I end up!! :p

Any other sports anyone thinks would be any good for stretchign out the stockiness whilst not gettin me fat!? hehe :D

I didn't think muscle could turn into fat?!

I know what you mean Crystal ... I don't think it's a direct link, ie that the muscle actually turns into fat, it's more the combination that if you give up a sport and become a couch potato, then your muscle starts to disappear (because you're not conditioning or training any more to retain your muscle) and alongside that you start to put weight on and get fat (because you've stopped conditioning/training so you're not burning off fat any more because you're just slobbing about instead!)

Trouble is I think there are a certain number of athletes who can put on weight once they give up a sport, basically because their metabolism has adjusted to all the hours of training they put in, and once you stop training, your metabolism can't cope with the lack of exercise and the pounds pile on! (That's me now!!)

So I think that's where the saying comes from about muscle turning into fat ... don't think it's meant literally (if you see what I mean!)

Hence by turning to squash when I was younger, I wasn't doing the hard conditioning to build muscle like I used to do when I did gymnastics, therefore my 'gym' muscle started to tone down (and I started to look a little more 'girly' again!), but because my squash sessions were so energetic, I was still doing plenty of hard exercise which stopped me become flabby.

One Option is too have a diet thats high in carbs and not proteins and do extra training.... I Know u all are thinking extra training means muscle growth but using this diet it doesnt, if you cut the proteins in diet the muslces don't have all the proteins required to rebuild / further build the fibres in the muscles after training thus meaning small muscle loss..... however I Would not recommend this, it can be very painful as where the muscles can't recover after training they can't take the constant pounding and strain thus the next in line namely the tendons and bones takes the hit and this can cause lasting damage...
Trust me i know, considering i had a very high carb diet and little protein ! and this happened to me in my calf muscles which is why im not allowed to tumble again untill its completely healed......
Another option is to do cardo work, when you haven't eaten or drank for a few hours go training and the body then burns of fat and muscles as its source of energy instead of the foods and drinks you normally eat

If i was you i would be happy with the shape you have and just work on tonning it up a little......
