Can anyone explain the scores? All this CJP, Judge 1,2,3 etc etc. And what are the scores out of? I have seen people with CJP of 2.0 and a few higher - what sort of deductions are included in this?
I know alot of parents are baffled by the scores that we see at competitions and it would be great if someone could shed some light on it.
Many Thanks

CJP = Chair of Judges Panel = Basically they take marks off for pretty much anything ( only kidding ) im not too sure of all of the things they deduct for but some are : height deductions ie Top being to small for the base, ilegal bits on leotards etc etc

As it now stands there are three judges J1, J2, J3 each judge marks you out of 10 i think and the final score is an average of the three, you then get a total of 10 for artistry marks which is basically how well the routine flows, fits together and whether or not the gymnastics are doing things the same... Basically the more you show off your the routine the better ie pointed hands, fingers, feet nice good body shape things that lose u marks are the opposite of this and playing with hair, leotards etc - It has been said many times that the difference between a gold medal and no medal is how well ur artistry is providing ur moves are good....

Finally you get a mark out ten for the difficult of your moves ie all the hard moves at that level equal ten marks, some low level moves and some high level marks may equal 8 marks or so....

hope this helps, but the best person to ask is Anita she is a Acro Judge and would know the answers better than me:(

That does make more sense - I wasn't sure what routines were scored out of as I rarely see anyone score more than 7.5-8.0 on each score and that is for routines that appear to have little or no obvious faults so thought it may be out to 8.0 not 10.0.

The main CJP deductions are for time faults @ NDP, 0.3 per second, but there can also be 1.0 deductions for non completion of elements, if people have a really bad day. The marks are lower now because judges are deducting for each individual element, rather than just the worst performed one. So in trio if they all slide on the floor & sit down in a handspring they would lose 3.0 whole marks not just 1.0, so 3 x poor split leaps (my pet hate) 0.9 or more, thats why the marks are lower.

Hi Anita,
At NDP very few of the regional preliminary competitions have a Difficulty Judge, in fact none of the three regions I was CJP at, and the CJP was giving a technical mark as well, the finals are different, we had more judges. FIG is different again, there should be two difficulty judges. one CJP, four execution & four artistry & a Jury. We are using this system so the scoring is easy for the audience to understand!!!!!!!

Just as we get the audience to understand the scoring it'll all change again ;) .
