Hi Liam

Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few people on the forum who have been going through (or are still going through) exams - there's quite a long thread called "Exams" where you can meet others who have been suffering.

I'm not one I might add - my exam days are in the long distance past (although I'm quite happy learning new IT skills etc).

When my daughters did their GCSE's they were still allowed to train because I don't believe in depriving them of their enjoyment of hobbies: I firmly believe you can study "too hard" and often end up with a mental block or, worse still, very depressed. Although no studying was also not an option for them! We struck a happy balance and they both did well in their exams without too much undue stress.

The eldest went on to do A levels and has just finished her third year at Uni - the youngest is working (goody - housekeeping money!:) ).

Anyway - good luck. Hope the exams go well for you, and everyone else.

Welcome :) Only 1 more for me tomorrow :D I haven't taken any time of training for revision.

I've just got one more left! :D Extension physics though which is my worst subject ever! Not a good exam to finish on  And I didn't have to quit training but I did have to cut my coaching hours down :( But I'll be able to take them all back up again next week! :D

Same exam as me :) One of my better subjects actually. Extension chemistry - that was bad!

Um, can I, eh, come across as a bit old and out of touch?

I did follow the English examination system, but in my day (which really wasn't very long ago!) you didn't get extension anything. What is it - is it another way of being nasty and making exams a bit more difficult again?

There are two science syllabii (sylabuses???). One is called double science, and one is called triple (or sometimes single) science. For double you get 2 'Science' grades. For triple, you get 3 grades, 1 each for physics, chemistry and biology. For the triple science course, you have to do 2 papers for each science. The first one is easier, and done by everyone, and the second one is harder, and only done by the candidates doing triple science. That's what I think anyway. So I do 3 extra exams, but I get an extra GCSE grade.

but you can also do single science, which is 2 papers with all the sciences mixed up in between them and you get one grade for it, which sounds a lot easier, i wish i had done that!

Have to admit I'd never heard of triple science - both my girls did double science (for the eldest it was compulsory as she was at Grammar, but the youngest had a choice of single or double science and as she was good at the sciences ....). Don't think triple was around then - they're aged 21 & 19 now.

YAY, all finished! The physics wasn't actually that bad in the end :) And as for double and triple- everyone in our year does double and the highest set do triple- i love being a boff :D but really, I think it's better this way because I'm good at biology and chemistry but I suck at physics so had a taken double, my physics mark would have bought my overall grade down whereas with triple I can pass biology and chemistry and fail physics :)

All finished :D No, the physics wasn't too bad :) As you said, doing triple means that biology and chemistry don't bring my physics grade down, as physics is my best subject.

Glad to hear it's all over and wishing everyone all the best :) And I'm glad I'm long since over with it ;), apart from the ACCA exams... :(

But... I've never been so bewildered since I opened my Biology GCSE paper

In my day it was really simple. There were Physics, Chemistry and Biology. You took one, all, or any combination you cared to. Each counted on their own and you got a grade for each (so the Biology disaster affected nothing but the Biology grade!). There was also 'Science', if you wanted it.

But then it's exactly ten years since I sat my first GCSEs (including all the sciences), I suppose that is actually quite a long time!

Ten Years? Gosh, that makes you :p old!

Talking of age, my sister managed to deflate my daughter on her 21st birthday. As always it was a "comedy" card but it was what she'd written inside: "Another nine years and you'll be 30" . Put that way, it was quite frightening.

Not that old thankfully! I started them quite young and did a few each year, finishing with the last ones at the right age!
