Hi all
Have been reading the June newsletter on the FIG Acro page and some pretty interesting points have been raised. They are looking at new ways of scoring, marks will be awarded up to a total of thirty, 10 for difficulty, 10 for artistry and 10 for technical. From my understanding of it they also want to do away with the routines that have such a high difficulty that even if they make a mistake they will still win! This would be so much better for spectators as well as gymnasts. I watched a Russian pair in Belgium who had a major fall on one move and still won because of their difficulty tariff.
Below is an extract from the newsletter:
Main changes anticipated (no certainties until work is complete for the Cycle)
Revision of difficulty values of some elements Marks to be 10.0 for Execution, 10.0 for Artistry and 10.0 for Technical Value. The maximum for an exercice will be 30.0
Technical Value Mark will be the mark for difficulty value of elements performed up to a maximum of 10.0 and penalised for failure to meet Special requirements, late tariff sheets, size deviation beyond the allowance, time faults in static holds and the duration of the exercise.
Roles of judges to be revised Artistry criteria to be more objective. In accord with an Executive directive, the Dress Code will be revised to promote gymnastic impact and to eliminate cabaret and theatrical themes, without loss of attire which enhances artistry. Bikini/naked impressions which have emerged with the use of skin colour fabrics to be eliminated. Height –research analysis has led to recommendation of minimum 1 cm. above the suprasternal point of the next tallest in a partnership. An explanatory guide to the Code to be available
Judges Charter to be revised to accord with the FIG Rules for all disciplines.
As you will see, one thing they are addressing is the dress code. This is worth everyone bearing in mind if they are looking for leotards for next year.
Let's hope it makes it fairer for all concerned!
