The best aerobic gymnasts in Britain will be at Fenton Manor, Stoke-on-Trent, for over three days of action competing for the 2009 British Aerobic Gymnastics Championships. (2/3/4th October)
Aerobic Gymnastics is perhaps the most dynamic and lively of all the gymnastic disciplines and the crowd will be treated to some amazingly vibrant and energetic performance.
“2009 has again been a superb year for all levels and ages, both at home and abroad our gymnasts have shone, and continue to be a credit to all involved in this sport. The 2009 British Championships are the second part of trials for the European Championships to be held in November, and I know many gymnasts and coaches have been working hard in their preparations to ensure that we send the best team possible to represent Great Britain.” - Nigel Saunders, Chair Aerobic TC
Both male and female gymnasts compete as individuals; in pairs; trios and groups. Gymnasts compete from the age of 9 years and many far beyond the age of 18. Unlike any other discipline, the gymnasts wear aerobic trainers and perform upon a sprung wooden floor. In competition, judges look for complex, high intensive choreographed routines, with perfectly executed elements. Routines are performed to up-tempo music and gymnasts utilise dynamic jumps and leaps - to feet, splits or in push up; static supports; a variety of push up moves and technical skills, demonstrating excellent flexibility. Routines therefore evidence speed, power and strength as well as flexibility, whilst the gymnast continuously moves around the floor, interpreting the rhythm, tempo and accents of the music.

Notes:
Aerobic Gymnastics has not only been a great form of physical training for the general public since the end of the 1980's, but also a top-level competitive sport. It became a member of the gymnastics family, and thus of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in 1994. In 1996, it became one of the official sports of the World Games.
Aerobic Gymnastics require the ability to perform continuous complex and high intensity movement patterns to music, which originates from traditional aerobic dance. The routine, which takes 1 min. 45 sec., must demonstrate a balanced choreography of creative aerobic movements, flexibility, and strength and difficulty elements performed with perfect execution. In Aerobic Gymnastics, gymnastics elements (i.e.; saltos and handstands) are prohibited. Each routine is evaluated by Artistic, Execution, Difficulty, and Chair Judges. It is a pleasure to see how each competitor performs his or her skills in a dynamic and rhythmic routine.
