There are now less than 3 weeks to go before some of the World’s leading experts gather in Birmingham for the International Congress – the Growing Child in High Performance Sport. The Congress is a unique opportunity to hear a range of presentations on the key issues facing coaches and support staff working with young, talented athletes.
If you are working with children in performance sport the Congress is an absolute must! So far response to the Congress has been excellent with registrations received from a wide range of sports, including professional football, rugby, swimming, gymnastics, athletics and ballet. The Congress will take place alongside the European Gymnastics Championships at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Birmingham from 30th April - 1st May 2010 The European Championships themselves begin on the 21st April with the Men’s competition for both Seniors and Juniors and continues with the Women’s events the week after (28th April- 2nd May). The highlights for the crowd will be the chance to see Britain’s gymnastics heroes in action including World Floor Champion Beth Tweddle, World All-around Silver medallist Daniel Keatings and Olympic Pommel Horse Bronze medallist Louis Smith. For the local fans, Wolverhampton born Kristian Thomas will have the chance to shine once again after finishing 6th in the World Championships All-around competition last year. The 2010 European Championships are a true stepping stone toward London 2012. For the Junior competitors a place at the first ever Youth Olympic Festival later this year in Singapore is up for grabs, and for the Seniors it will be vital to perform well as they look to clinch their places in the British Team looking ahead to the next World Championships, the first qualification event for the Olympic Games. --------- The closing date for registrations to the Congress is Monday 19th April.
