Club’s Legal Liability Protection
Gymnastics and trampolining are high-risk activities. British Gymnastics has a ‘duty of care’ to protect both the sport and those who take part in it.
This ‘duty of care’ also exists at club level where 95% of all gymnastics and trampolining takes place.
All Club representatives, whether coaches, officers or officials, volunteers or participants, must ensure that they do not cause injury or loss to others, or damage to property. If they do, they must appreciate that they could be legally liable to pay damages.
However safe we try to make our sport, accidents do happen. As a consequence British Gymnastics has arranged through their broker, Perkins Slade Ltd, Legal Liability Cover for all clubs who affiliate to the Association.
Legal Liability Cover provides protection for all activities including training, competitions and displays as well as any social, fund-raising and administrative activities, recognised or approved by British Gymnastics and which are held in a British Gymnastics recognised environment.
This protection is essential and is automatically provided to all affiliated clubs that have registered all their members.

BG Recognised Activity: Any BG gymnastics discipline or cheerleading activity carried out in a BG recognised environment
BG Recognised Environment:
A BG registered club or BG registered club arranged event.
An unregistered leisure centre that is delivering a BG recognises course (i.e BG resources, certificates and badges)
Any event (including training camps - cover for gymnastics & cheerleading only) organised and/or run by BG or a BG affiliate organisation.
A school delivering gymnastics during curricular time and in an extra-curricular gymnastics club.
Members’ Personal Accident Insurance
This is a "no-fault" compensation for members up to the age of 80 (subject to a medical certificate and assessment from the age of 75) who are insured whilst participating in a Club authorised or organised activity (anywhere in the world). Coaches over the age of 75 have to obtain a current medical certificate and be available to be assessed by an approved Examiner to confirm competency to Physically Support.

British Gymnastics Members participating in non-BG events
From time to time clubs may receive invitations to enter competitions and other events, which are run by organisations not registered with British Gymnastics.
The decision whether to enter such an event, or not, remains with each club. However, in making the decision, clubs should be aware that British Gymnastics insurance is not valid for such events. BG Insurance includes Personal Accident cover for coaches and gymnasts and Legal Liability cover for coaches, as provided by Perkins Slade (please check your brochure for full details of this cover).
If you decide to enter these events you should satisfy yourself that insurance cover, equivalent to the British Gymnastics insurance above, is provided for each and every participant, and that all intending participants are fully aware of the insurance situation.
British Gymnastics Insurance at Events
British Gymnastics insurance policy covers coaches and gymnasts with BG registered clubs taking part in BG recognised events: that is those run and organised by British Gymnastics itself or by its Affiliates.
