13/05/2010 2010 European Pommel Horse Champion Daniel Keatings has sustained an injury which is likely to rule him out of competitive action for the remainder of the year, including the 2010 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships to be held in Rotterdam, October 17th. "Following the European Championships Daniel Keatings sustained an injury in training and has torn his anterior cruciate ligament. He will undergo reconstructive surgery and start a 6-9 month rehabilitation programme with his British Gymnastics medical team." :Pippa Bennett, Chief Medical Officer British Gymnastics. Daniel Keatings: "I am of course very disappointed to have suffered from this injury, but remain very positive about the future and am looking ahead to working hard with the British Gymnastics medical Team to ensure that I do everything I can to be in a position to return strongly, and continue my journey towards London 2012." Tim Jones, British Gymnastics Olympic Performance Director: “This is very disappointing news for Daniel, particularly coming so soon after his and the Team’s successes at the European Championships. However we are making sure that he receives the very best medical care to ensure a full and timely return to fitness. We have demonstrated through recent results that we have a real strength in depth at the moment in our Men’s Programme, and Daniel’s enforced absence will provide us with an opportunity to give other gymnasts some valuable experience at this seasons’ major international events. We all wish Daniel a speedy recovery.” END |
