Beth Tweddle won two Gold medals for Great Britain, after competing in the Uneven Bars and Floor finals at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia . Qualifying for both events with the two top scores, Tweddle continued her amazing form by wowing the judges and winning two Gold medals in the process.

The University of Liverpool student is part of a delegation of 196 athletes and officials from Great Britain who travelled to Belgrade to compete across 11 sports at the World University Games. Over 8000 athletes from 140 countries will compete over 13 days in the capital city of Serbia.

Tweddle scored 15.750 on the uneven bars to take the Gold medal, ahead of Korea’s Yong Hwa Ha score of 15.575 and China’s Yuyuan Jiang score of 15.200. Tweddle was pushed all the way in the Floor competition by the Chinese pairing of Yuyuan Jiang and Ning He who took silver and bronze respectively.

After graduating from Liverpool John Moores with a sports science degree in 2007, Tweedle returned to university to study Health Studies at the University of Liverpool with ambitions of a career as a physiotherapist.

“I have been lucky that both universities have been very supportive off all my training. They know that I want to succeed both academically and in my sport. I cannot wait to show them my medals! I am delighted to win two Gold medals at the World University Games. The feeling of winning medals for your Country is amazing and something I am very proud of. Being at University has enabled me to train in some of the best facilities in the country, and competing at the World University Games is an invaluable experience as I prepare for London 2012”, said Tweddle.
