August 2010 will see two intriguing Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Friendly Internationals in Great Britain, which will be part of the ongoing selection process for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, 8-14 October and the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, 18-24 October 2010: GBR vs. Romania in Ipswich, 14-15 August and GBR vs. Switzerland in Gateshead, 28-29 August.

Romania, multiple Olympic, World and European Champions in the past, are expected to arrive with their strongest competitors, as well as the Suisse, who took the 6th place at the European Championships in Birmingham in May.

Teams’ line-up for both events will be announced at a later date. Great Britain is expected to enter more than one team, as part of the selection process for the two major events in October.

“Both competition are very important to us”, said the British Gymnastics Women’s Technical Director Adrian Stan.

“These events will give us clear indication where we stand in our preparation for Rotterdam and Delhi. Given the fact that we have managed to beat Romania at the European Championships, where we took the silver medals and Romania took the bronze, we can’t expect them but to seek a revenge in Ipswich. We have a long record of friendly competitions with this world recognised gymnastics powerhouse and all of them have been extremely beneficial for both parts”, concluded Adrian Stan.

The 2 British Teams competing will be confirmed just prior to the event, and will be made up out of the gymnasts recently announced in the British 2010-11 National Performance Squad.
