Daniel Purvis and
Louis Smith have both enhanced the growing reputation of GBR men's gymnastics by winning two silver medals at the prestigious Korea Cup Tournament, held in Seoul. This inaugural event attracted some of the best gymnasts from across the globe, who came to compete in an individual apparatus format as a warm up for the vital World Championships to be held in Tokyo in October.
Fresh from helping the British men to a bronze medal in the Toyota Cup one week earlier, Southport gymnast Daniel Purvis performed his floor routine superbly to score 15.275, taking silver behind Kosmidis of Greece with 15.525, and Yang of Korea taking bronze with 15.125. Huntingdon's Louis Smith was also in great form, beating current World Champion Kristzian Berki of Hungary, who took bronze on Pommel Horse with 15.375. Smith scored 15.575 for silver, with China's Zhang Hongtao taking gold with 15.95. These performances round off a superb fortnight for the British boys in Japan and Korea, and sets the stage for a great World Championships in October
