British Gymnastics subscribes to the principles of equality of opportunity and strives to ensure that anyone participating in gymnastics is able to do so in a discrimination-free environment. British Gymnastics believes that everyone is entitled to be treated fairly regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, parental or marital status, disability, religion, colour, race, ethnic or national origins, or socio/economic background.
British Gymnastics has achieved both the Foundation and Preliminary levels of the UK Equality Standard for Sport and we are currently working towards the submission for the Intermediate level of the standard.
British Gymnastics takes equality seriously and strives to ensure that equality is embedded as part of our decision making processes at every level of our organisation. To give an example of how we incorporate this in to our work in practice; the Board of Directors for British Gymnastics has adopted a reporting format which ensures that equality implications are considered for every agenda item discussed at Board level.
British Gymnastics has also established The Equality Task Group. This group has been driving forward equality work across the whole Organisation since 2007, with a main focus on breaking down barriers to participation in gymnastics by under-represented groups. The group now acts as a task and finish forum which works to develop effective structures, processes and delivery across the organisation.
