Research - British Gymnastics

Clubs, Schools & Leisure Centres

UPDATED: Wednesday 25th March - 9.45am

Is there anything specific I need to know as a business and employer?
The Government has provided guidance for employers, employees and businesses on GOV.UK.
You’ve cancelled British Gymnastics events up until end of June, do you expect to cancel others too?
There is a possibility other events could be affected, but we cannot speculate on what might happen in the future. The cancellations up until the end of June haven’t been taken lightly. We’ve based our decision on current advice and guidance from experts and the Government and wanted to be proactive in tackling the spread of Coronavirus and protecting our gymnastics family, their families and the wider community.

We’ll continue to monitor that guidance and its impact on our events. We will always prioritise communicating any further changes or cancellations to you as soon as possible and we urge you to check our social media channels and website for updates.
Why didn’t you cancel events sooner?
This has been a fast-moving environment and we had planned to maintain our programme of events where possible, while monitoring the guidance and advice of the World Health Organisation, Public Health England, local and national Government. However, with the advice regarding mass gatherings, widespread international travel restrictions and concern from both spectators, gymnasts and officials we have concluded the FIG World Cup cannot take place on 28th March and as such have taken the decision to cancel this event and all British Gymnastics national events as listed below until end of June as a precautionary measure

Status of events

Name of event Location Dates Status
Trampoline and Tumbling Spring Event Series 1  Telford International Centre  21st - 22nd March  Cancelled

Rhythmic NDP Finals and Group League Round 1  Fenton Manor Sports Complex 13th - 14th June Cancelled
Gymnastics for All - GymFusion York Barbican, York 27th - 28th June Cancelled

If you cancel my event, what will happen?
We’re mindful of the financial impact cancelling events has on our gymnasts, coaches, judges, volunteers and spectators. We’re also mindful of the impact cancellation has on qualification and grades. We’re working closely with the technical committees and other parties to understand the process to resolve the challenges this brings.

FIG World Cup:
For the World Cup, 28th March at Arena Birmingham you will need to contact the Ticket Factory who will refund the ticket value to the original payment method. Please refer to their website for more information.
Artistic British Championships:
For British Championships 16th – 19th April, the M&S Bank Arena will process all refunds. Ticket holders will receive an email and a refund will be sent to their bank account within 5-7 working days. Please refer to their website for more information.
All other British Gymnastics national events:
For other British Gymnastics national events refunds will be available. Your refund will be automatically made to you via the original payment method and payee. You don’t need to do anything. Please bear with us at this incredibly busy time. We will process refunds as soon as possible.
Can I claim compensation for my travel and accommodation costs for cancelled events?
We would advise everyone booking travel or accommodation to be mindful of the terms and conditions on their bookings, including cancellation charges and refunds. We cannot provide compensation for any travel and accommodation cancellation costs incurred.
Will you be rescheduling cancelled events?
The current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing and we are not rescheduling events as this will prove too difficult in the current climate. We will be providing further updates to anyone affected in terms of qualification and grades as soon as we can.
Why have you chosen to postpone educational courses and conferences?
We made this decision as a result of the further social distancing measures introduced by the Government including the instructions to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible and to avoid non-essential travel.
Why are you cancelling all events up until June?
We have made the decision to cancel all national events until the end of June in the hope this decisive action will remove uncertainty within the gymnastics community and take the pressure off regions, clubs, coaches, gymnasts and volunteers. We hope removing the pressure of preparing for these events will allow clubs to more effectively manage the challenges they are facing.

We understand and share the disappointment of everyone involved and affected by this decision. Our principal concern is with the health and wellbeing of our gymnasts, their families, staff, volunteers, officials, coaches and supporters.
YOUR CLUB IN THE SPOTLIGHT 770 X 420 03

Your Club in the Spotlight – calling all coaches!

We are inviting clubs from our community to be part of a series of photo and video shoots for a range of recreational activity resources that will be used by gymnasts and coaches across the UK.

For this phase we are looking for a group of 16 boys and girls aged between 5-13 years who represent the diverse nature of our sport. We will need the same gymnasts to be available for all dates required.

Scheduled throughout the summer of 2020, the photoshoots will take place in our newly refurbished facility here at Lilleshall National Sports Centre and will be an exciting experience for your club. See what goes on behind the camera as your gymnasts are involved in fun activities whilst we capture the action!

Filming will take place on the below dates:

  • Thursday 9th April
  • Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd May
  • Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th June
  • Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th, & Wednesday 12th August
  • Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August

You will need to be available for the majority of the above dates, however, please include in your application any dates that you are not available. The most difficult skills that gymnasts will be required to perform are below. Please note however that all 16 gymnasts do not need to be able to perform these.

  • Floor skills – Flicks, handsprings, somersaults; aerials; ring leaps; straddle lever to handstand
  • Bars/P-bar - Straddle undershoot with full turn; flyaway (p-bar and bars); upstart, cast to handstand (p-bar and bars)
  • Beam - Backwards and forwards walkovers, somersault dismounts, full spin, split leap
  • Vault - ½ on ½ off; handspring ½ off
  • Rhythmic - throw hoop/ball; cat leap - forward roll to catch
  • Acro - round-off to cradle; stand on shoulder motion down to splits

Due to the significance and size of the project we may require additional dates. All filming will take place at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Accommodation and travel costs are not included.

Due to the requirements of the filming we will be looking for clubs who can perform a range of skills across various disciplines, therefore, if you are a Rhythmic, Artistic or an Acro club this could be an opportunity for you and your gymnasts!

Please read our pdf terms and conditions (149 KB) for this competition.

This competition has now closed, thank you to all clubs that have entered!
