Festivals - British Gymnastics

Clubs, Schools & Leisure Centres

UPDATED: Wednesday 15th April 2020 - 15.20pm

Are staff still covered under our clubs Employers Liability insurance?
Staff who are not furloughed and are still providing administrative support for clubs working from home would be afforded protection under the Clubs insurance cover provided through the British Gymnastics insurance programme. For a successful Employers Liability claim to be brought however there would have to be an element of liability on the part of the Club.
What is British Gymnastics doing to help clubs at this time?
We have developed a dedicated club support page that brings together as much guidance as possible on the following topics;

Health & safety
Examples of club messages to members
Government assistance

This can be found by clubs who login to the following page; https://www.british-gymnastics.org/clubs/club-support/corona-virus-updates

This content will change as government advice changes so please bear with us as things change.
Where can I get advice for my employees who are furloughed?
You can contact DAS Law on 0117 933 0617 or email [email protected] for specific information on how to support your club.

Webinars have also been offered to you as a registered club and the most up to date copy has been included on our club support page for those that couldn't enrol.
Will British Gymnastics be offering financial assistance to clubs?
Our team will help to provide direction to clubs about the financial support that is available. The government has recently announced new financial measures designed to help businesses and individuals. As well as this, Sport England are also working to give organisations access to potential grants and financial aid. As these measures and the associated criteria are quite complex, we will be pulling together some guidance on this to help clubs understand what is available to them.
Is there anything specific I need to know as a business and employer?
The Government has provided guidance for employers, employees and businesses on GOV.UK.
You’ve cancelled British Gymnastics events up until end of June, do you expect to cancel others too?
There is a possibility other events could be affected, but we cannot speculate on what might happen in the future. The cancellations up until the end of June haven’t been taken lightly. We’ve based our decision on current advice and guidance from experts and the Government and wanted to be proactive in tackling the spread of Coronavirus and protecting our gymnastics family, their families and the wider community.

We’ll continue to monitor that guidance and its impact on our events. We will always prioritise communicating any further changes or cancellations to you as soon as possible and we urge you to check our social media channels and website for updates.
Will you be rescheduling cancelled events?
The current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing and we are not rescheduling events as this will prove too difficult in the current climate. We will be providing further updates to anyone affected in terms of qualification and grades as soon as we can.

Your Club in the Spotlight – calling all coaches!

We are inviting clubs from our community to be part of a series of photo and video shoots for a range of recreational activity resources that will be used by gymnasts and coaches across the UK.

For this phase we are looking for a group of 16 boys and girls aged between 5-13 years who represent the diverse nature of our sport. We will need the same gymnasts to be available for all dates required.

Scheduled throughout the summer of 2020, the photoshoots will take place in our newly refurbished facility here at Lilleshall National Sports Centre and will be an exciting experience for your club. See what goes on behind the camera as your gymnasts are involved in fun activities whilst we capture the action!

Filming will take place on the below dates:

  • Thursday 9th April
  • Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd May
  • Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th June
  • Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th, & Wednesday 12th August
  • Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August

You will need to be available for the majority of the above dates, however, please include in your application any dates that you are not available. The most difficult skills that gymnasts will be required to perform are below. Please note however that all 16 gymnasts do not need to be able to perform these.

  • Floor skills – Flicks, handsprings, somersaults; aerials; ring leaps; straddle lever to handstand
  • Bars/P-bar - Straddle undershoot with full turn; flyaway (p-bar and bars); upstart, cast to handstand (p-bar and bars)
  • Beam - Backwards and forwards walkovers, somersault dismounts, full spin, split leap
  • Vault - ½ on ½ off; handspring ½ off
  • Rhythmic - throw hoop/ball; cat leap - forward roll to catch
  • Acro - round-off to cradle; stand on shoulder motion down to splits

Due to the significance and size of the project we may require additional dates. All filming will take place at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Accommodation and travel costs are not included.

Due to the requirements of the filming we will be looking for clubs who can perform a range of skills across various disciplines, therefore, if you are a Rhythmic, Artistic or an Acro club this could be an opportunity for you and your gymnasts!

Please read our pdf terms and conditions (149 KB) for this competition.

This competition has now closed, thank you to all clubs that have entered!

What is it?

Adult gymnastics provides a new opportunity for anyone aged 18+ to try out or return to our amazing sport. Does your club want to offer something different to your older gymnasts once they’ve stopped competing to keep them participating? Or do you have any parents or enthusiastic adults who want to try gymnastics for the first time? Adult gymnastics can broaden your club offering and diversify revenue streams within the club, while utilising your space during quieter period such as early mornings, lunchtime or later in the evening.

Local competitions

Many clubs with well-established adult sessions run successful adult competitions. This is a great starting point for those adults who have never competed before and helps create a network of participants. As with the Adult Gymnastics British Championships, all competitions are relaxed and highly sociable with a number of disciplines on offer.

Can’t find a suitable competition? Why not run your own? We have created a pdf handy event guide (804 KB) to support you in setting up your own adult competition.

Participating in festivals such as GymFusion or our international festivals provides the opportunity for gymnasts of all ages and abilities to showcase their gymnastics skills in front of a captive audience in theatre-like venues. Festivals are the perfect opportunity for adults to perform as part of a team and socialise with other like-minded people from all over the world.
