Things to note
This eLearning course is designed for 16-17 year old coaches who hold, or are working towards their UKCC Level 1 Coaching Award. It is an ideal introduction for young people who frequently judge, volunteer or work in a club with young children.
The course explains why safeguarding and child protection is so important in the sport and how young volunteers, coaches and judges can contribute. It is designed to empower and support young members, giving them full confidence in their club activities with young children, especially when coaching.
The course covers a range of areas, such as:
• Recognising different types of abuse
• How to respond if a child discloses any welfare issues
• Where you can go to find help and support
• Tips on best practice when coaching
The course should only take around 30-40 minutes to complete, finishing with a short quiz at the end.
Please note that this course does not replace the Safeguarding and Child Protection certificate for over 18s, but is a great opportunity to refresh your knowledge.
Once the relevant fee is paid the course can be accessed through the British Gymnastics Academy.
