TeamGym Senior Club Coach

As a Senior Club Coach in TeamGym you will be able to support participants working towards more advanced competitions. You will learn about the psychological pressures and physical requirements of the participants you are coaching. You will be able to coach participants in dynamic jumps, balance and flexibility elements, and exciting apparatus skills.  You will develop the ability to coach participants at junior level National and International competitions. 

You will already hold a complete Level 3 TeamGym qualification.

Who is this Aimed at:

Level 3 coaches that are supporting participants working towards more senior competitions.

What To Expect:

An informative course focusing on technical aspects, how to support progress, and how to physically prepare participants for the skills covered within the syllabus. This course also explores the more technical theory which can be applied to the participant's training and club environment.

Delivery Method:

  • Practical and classroom based.
  • The number of days will vary from course to course; see application stage for further details.

Do I Need To Bring Participants:

  • The requirement to provide participants will be specified upon registration.

Do I Need To Find A Mentor:

Yes a mentor is required. Your mentor should be a coach of the same level or higher and the same discipline.

What Resources Are Included:

Logbook, course specific resource pack and common core resource pack.

Outcomes:

By the end of the course learners will understand:

  • The competition structure and the judging involved at various levels
  • How to prevent injuries
  • What the coaching process is and the psychology involved
  • Nutritional advice for participants and good practice during training
  • Technical skills from the syllabus

Learner must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the course

  • Learner must hold one of the following awards:
  • TeamGym - Club Coach
  • TeamGym - Senior Club Coach
  • TeamGym - Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Gymnastics - Club Coach
  • TeamGym - UKCC Level 3 Coach
  • TeamGym - Level 3 Coach Cycle 6

Floor:

  • Balances
  • Straddle to handstand
  • Headstand to elbow planche
  • Handstand to elbow planche
  • Pirouettes with variation
  • Various standing balances
  • Jumps, Leaps & Hops
  • Butterfly
  • Various jumps to lay
  • Various competitive level jumps and leaps

Tumble:

  • Backwards:
  • Double back (tuck / pike)
  • Single somersaults with unlimited twists
  • Whips
  • Forwards
  • Double front (preps)
  • Single somersaults with unlimited twists (step outs and punches)

Trampette:

  • Single somersaults with unlimited twists
  • Double somersault with 180 out (tuck / pike / straight)
  • Double somersault with 180 in (tuck / pike / straight)
  • Double somersault with 540 (pucked)

Trampette Vault:

  • Handsprings with unlimited twists (on and off)
  • Handspring front somersault 180 (tuck / pike / straight)
  • Tsukahara (tuck, pike, straight)

Common Core:

  • Coaching process
  • Coaching theory
  • Nutrition
  • Flexibility theory
  • Age and stage of maturation
  • Psychology
  • Injury prevention
  • Anti-doping

Sport Specific:

  • Biomechanics
  • Judging

Assessment Method:

  • Practical – including planning and delivering a practical session including the skills from the skills matrix.
  • Theory – including sport specific and common core written papers (1 ½ hours per paper).
  • Logbook – including a range of tasks relating to both practical and theory aspects of the course.*
  • *The DMT module does not include the logbook.

How Long Until I Am Fully Qualified:

  • On sign off of this course you will received a British Gymnastics Senior Club Coach certificate and be eligible to coach the skills covered within the syllabus.

When Is My Assessment:

  • You have up to 2 years from day 1 of the course to arrange and complete your assessment.*
  • *Assessment for the DMT module is on day 2 of the course.

Learners should prepare all the skills within their allocated box. The assessor will select the three pieces of apparatus to be demonstrated during the assessment. The learner may select either the handspring front somersault tucked or the Tsukahara tucked vault option.

Box 1

3 of the 4 skills listed will be chosen for assessment:

1. Floor: Straddle press to handstand
2. Tumble: Handspring, straight 360, straight 180
3. Trampette: Double pike 180
4. Trampette Vault: Handspring straight front 180 or straight Tsukahara

Box 2

3 of the 4 skills listed will be chosen for assessment:

1. Floor: Headstand to elbow planche
2. Tumble: Double back somersault (piked)
3. Trampette: Double straight 180
4. Trampette Vault: Handspring tuck front 180 or tucked Tsukahara

Box 3

3 of the 4 skills listed will be chosen for assessment:

1. Floor: Handstand to elbow planche
2. Tumble: Double back somersault (tucked)
3. Trampette: (full in, half out pucked)
4. Trampette Vault: Handspring pike front 180 or piked Tsukahara

Box 4

3 of the 4 skills listed will be chosen for assessment:

1. Floor: Handstand to planche
2. Tumble: Whip, flic, double back somersault (tucked)
3. Trampette: 180 in, back out piked
4. Trampette Vault: Handspring straight front 180 or straight Tsukahara

Box 5

3 of the 4 skills listed will be chosen for assessment:

1. Floor: Butterfly
2. Tumble: Whip, flic, double back somersault (piked)
3. Trampette: 180 in, back out piked
4. Trampette Vault: Handspring pike front 180 or piked Tsukahara
