Teachers' Introductory Gymnastics

This course will qualify you to teach gymnastics within a school environment.

Gymnastics is a great way for schools to get involved with sports, either as part of the existing National Curriculum or through after school clubs. You will develop the skills to support participants in fun skills such as rolls, leaps and the use of apparatus.

You will focus on class management, warm ups and the importance of safety.

Who is this Aimed at:

Teachers and teaching assistants who hold a QTS or formal qualification or for individuals working towards these qualifications.

What To Expect:

An informative course to provide learners with the confidence to deliver quality gymnastics sessions during curriculum time and in an afterschool club environment.

Delivery Method:

Ten hours- practical based.

Do I Need To Bring Participants:

No, participants are not required.

Do I Need To Find A Mentor:

No mentor is required for the course, but it advisable to develop links with a local gymnastics club for on-going development.

Outcomes:

  • Build confidence in your approach to gymnastics
  • Develop the necessary skills required to teach set moves
  • Give you the ability to incorporate apparatus and sequencing into lessons
  • Help you to understand and underpin good body management
  • Teach you how to identify and remedy common faults
  • Develop your subject knowledge for future courses

Practical Delivery:

  • Class management in the gym, warm up, safety issues and body management
  • Hand apparatus and paired/grouped activities
  • Rolling
  • Static balances
  • Landings, jumps, leaps and flights
  • Travelling

Throughout each module sequencing, use of apparatus and evaluation will be covered.

Assessment Method:

On course assessment.

How Long Until I Am Fully Qualified:

Certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the course.
