17th April 2015
After recovering from injury sustained at the Commonwealth Games in 2014, Sam Oldham has made all-around and high bar finals at the European Championships.
Joining Sam in the finals are Kristian Thomas on floor, vault and high bar, Louis Smith on pommel, Courtney Tulloch on rings and Daniel Purvis as p bars reserve and all-around final.
On floor Sam couldn’t quite control the landing on his first twisting tumble but recovered well, performing some stylish flair work and solid landing to give him 13.700.There was disappointment for Sam on pommel horse as he lost rhythm and fell mid routine jumping back on to complete a clean dismount for 12.933. When recovering from injury Sam got time to build up his strength and that showed on rings as he put in a controlled performance with a perfect dismount for 14.333 points. Sam produced nicely executed vault with just the smallest of hops on landing scoring 14.533 and on parallel bars he showed good form but again hopped back on dismount scoring 14.833. High bar is one of Sam’s strongest apparatus and the reigning silver medallist found his form with a superb performance, huge skills releasing and re-catching the bar he landed with a fist pump and impressive 14.766 points and 85.098 overall.
Sam Oldham was second in the high bar standings and will be looking top his two previous silver medals
