It is with much sadness that we share the news that Phil Morris fell asleep for the last time this weekend after a long illness. Phil was one of our founding coaches and was much loved and respected by gymnasts, parents and work colleagues alike.
He has inspired 100’s of children and young adults for more than 30 years. Over the years, he was a familiar face at Essex County Squads and coached many County and Regional Champions with some of them also qualifying for National Finals.
He was always such a positive influence encouraging everyone to follow their dreams and in the gym it never mattered who he was coaching because his only ask was for ‘good manners, respect and a good work ethic’.
Phil was always his happiest in the gym and even though his visits became less frequent as his health deteriorated, his eyes would light up the minute he came through the door. You always knew when you’d done a good job because Phil would say “that was magic!”.
Phil will be very sorely missed by us all.
