Trampolining in England set to reach new heights

The English Gymnastics Association (EGA) and British Gymnastics have joined forces to ensure trampolinists across England are given every opportunity to represent England and/or Great Britain in the sport.

The EGA and British Gymnastics have developed a brand new and exciting competition programme structure for trampolining in England. This new programme, which is part of EGA’s strategic plan, has been developed in partnership and will be delivered by the EGA.  It is being financially supported by British Gymnastics.

To ensure the maximum benefit is realised from this investment in the sport, two key appointments have been made in the form of Stephen Wood, as the EGA Technical Co-ordinator, and Paul Greaves, as the England Trampoline Squad Co-ordinator.  These two new appointees will work closely with colleagues at British Gymnastics to ensure the programme is rolled out across England so that the new and rising stars of the sport are identified and supported to reach their full potential at home country and national level.

Speaking about the partnership approach to the new trampolining programme, Kevin Flynn, Chairman from the EGA, said:

“It is so important that we keep the momentum going, if we want to replicate and build on the successes we have seen in the sport in recent months.  Trampolining is experiencing great interest in the public’s mind and we want to continue to deliver results for our gymnasts and encourage more people to compete.  To achieve this, we are pleased to work in partnership with British Gymnastics to ensure we support the sport to deliver a competition and squad pathway that will identify talent and ultimately produce high performers in trampolining.

Adding support, Jane Allen CEO from British Gymnastics, commented:

“As recent as last November, Great Britain made a historic leap forward in Trampoline with athletes, for the very first time, securing two of the eight guaranteed places at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.  The talent is evident, but we want to ensure successes that we have come to enjoy in recent times become an ongoing and sustainable attainment.  This new structure of competitions and squads in England will enable more gymnasts to compete and experience more competitions at the right level and, potentially, go on to qualify and compete at the British Championships.” Details of the new competitions will be issued by the EGA in the near future and will be posted on their webpages https://www.british-gymnastics.org/england

Here’s to reaching new heights in the sport!
