Within recent years the entire Men's programme has gone from strength to strength. The addition of the Talent Development Programme has had considerable success since its launch in 2013 and continues to contribute towards the development of coaches and gymnasts across the country.
A vast number of young gymnasts and coaches attended over 50 camps and 35 clinics in the first three years of the Talent Development Programme. The number of gymnasts that compete in the National Setwork Finals has been consistently rising over the last few years and the addition of the Talent Development Programme has without doubt contributed to this.
During the 3 years of the programme between 2013 and 2015, there was a significant increase of 48% in the number of Elite Grade entries and almost a 9% increase in the Club Grade entries. The number of clubs producing gymnasts selected for the Elite Performance Squad is at an all time high. These figures are extremely positive for the programme, they reflect the widespread use of good coaching methods within the clubs and regions.
Review Process
The Performance Pathway staff and National Coaches have been working hard to sustain the success of the Performance Pathway programme. Feedback was gathered from both clinic and camp attendees, these points were taken on board in the reviewing process.
The Performance Pathway staff and National Coaches are confident that the new format of events will be effective as well as resolving issues that were higlighted within the previous structure. The aims of the programme remain unchanged, however there is now more of a focus on providing coach development opportunities.
From April 2016, a National calendar of Club Open Days will replace the regional clinics. These Open Days will provide a unique opportunity to observe some of the country's best development and performance coaches coaching day-to-day sessions in their own environment. In addition, National Coaches will frequently be present to offer further advice and support to coaches who are keen to learn and develop their expertise.
Each Open Day includes observation of the club's usual training environment, a short interactive workshop and a question and answer session
The Open Day calendar of events can be found on the 'Find A Course' section of the British Gymnastics Website or via the link below. Coaches will have the opportunity book onto these events on a first-come-first-served basis. From August 2016 the programme aims to expand and select additional high performing clubs to host Club Open Days.
