- How quickly do I need to renew my membership?
You will be asked to complete your membership either after your club has declared or when you sign-up to join your club. Members are required to complete their membership by 31st October. For 2020, the deadline has been extended to 30th November. This is when your insurance for the last membership year will become invalid.
- Has the membership fee been reduced for 2020-21 in light of the coronavirus pandemic?
Up until 31st October 2020 (30th September in Scotland), both recreational and competitive members who renew, or new members who join, will pay a subsidised annual membership fee.
• Recreational members - £15 for 2020/21 membership reduced from £19 in 2019/20
• Competitive members - £35 in 2020/21 membership reduced from £43 in 2019/20
Any recreational or competitive members who join or renew after 31st October (30th September in Scotland) will need to pay the original price which was the same as last year.
The fee for coach membership has also been subsidised for this membership year and this will apply across all four entry points for Coach registration and renewal.

- Do I need to pay for competitive membership when there are no competitions running at the moment?
We’re aware that no competitions are running at the moment but we are working closely with the government and our National Technical Committees to plan for the future so that when we are in a position to do so, we can run competitions in a safe way across the disciplines.
We will do all we can to resume competitions in this membership year. For this reason, competitive membership is still available as an option and we have subsidised the one-off annual membership fee up until 31st October (30th September in Scotland) to £35, down from £43 in 2019/20. From 1st November (1st October in Scotland) onwards, the price of competitive membership will be £43.
If you have taken out a recreational membership you can upgrade to competitive membership at any time. The insurance element of your membership is an annual policy and, as a result, is paid as a one-off fee for the year. When our National Development Plan (NDP) competitions resume, or any regional competitions that require competitive membership, gymnasts wanting to be a part of these would need to ensure they have a competitive gymnast membership. At this point you would need to upgrade your membership and pay the difference between the recreational gymnast membership fee you paid and the competitive gymnast membership cost at that time.
- Can I pay for recreational membership now and then upgrade my membership to competitive later in the year?
All members have the option to upgrade their membership later in the year, however, from 1st November (1st October in Scotland) the price of competitive membership will be £43 so any members who have purchased recreational membership earlier in the year will need to pay the remaining balance at the higher rate. See below for details on discounts and annual fee options.
If you selected Competitive gymnast membership last year and would like to change to Recreational gymnast membership at this time, you can change the level of membership during the renewal process on page 3 of the Renewals portal. You can then upgrade at a later stage when competitions return.

- Does the discount for 2020/21 only cover the first month of the membership year?
No, the subsidised price is a one-off annual membership fee. The membership subsidy offer price ends at the end of October (end of September in Scotland) but provides membership from October 2020 to 30th September 2021.
- Why was it not possible to reimburse membership fees from 2019/20 due to clubs being closed during the pandemic and lockdown?
We appreciate that the last few months of the last membership year were difficult, and this was an unprecedented period for our club and member community, our organisation and our sport. During the pandemic and national lockdown, we revised our insurance policy to allow for activity to take place at home and outdoors, once permitted by Government. Along with this, we created and updated digital resources containing British Gymnastics endorsed activities to allow gymnasts to continue doing activities at home through sessions organised virtually by their club and by following our social media channels.
At the same time, we have been working hard to ensure that our member clubs had measures in place to enable them to be prepared for a Covid-secure return when the government allowed clubs to reopen. We are pleased to see that many clubs have now reopened, and they have been hugely supported by their community’s willingness to return to the sport. We will be continuing our work to lobby the government to ensure the valuable work our clubs do for their members is noted to help influence and reduce the impact that any local lockdowns have on our members’ ability to attend their club and their club’s ability to continue operating.
- How do I know what account type I need?
• If you are under 16 your parent will need to a create a parent account.
• If you’re 16 or 17 you can have either your own account or your parent can create an account.
• Over 18’s need to have their own account
- When does my membership start from?
Our membership year runs from 1st October to 30th September (1st September to 31st August for Scotland). If you are a recreational and competitive member, whenever you renew, your membership will run until 30th September (31st August for Scotland).
- How quickly can I join as a British Gymnastics Member?
If you’re a new member with us, you will need to ensure that your club has completed their registration for the new membership year before you join us. Please check with your club before joining.
- Why can’t I login?

- My child has two parent accounts?
If you have registered your child under two different parents accounts, you will need to contact us in order for the accounts to be merged together. We will need email permission from the parent who is losing the access in order to merge the accounts together.
You will need to email into email@example.com.
- How do I upgrade membership
You can upgrade membership in GymNet. If you are doing this for your child, you will need to select them from your ‘Select a child’ drop down. You will need to click on the blue ‘Membership’ button and scroll down towards the bottom of the page.
You will see the available upgrades and just need to click on the shopping cart icon with the + sign. The charge will then be added to your checkout on the right-hand side of the screen.
- I want to remove my parents account; how would I do this?
You will need to go through the Join for The First Time process to get your own account. You won’t be able to use the email address that was previously linked to the parent account.
- Can I be a member of more than one club?
Yes, you can. You won’t need to take out a second membership for the additional clubs, you will just need to ensure you add the club to your membership via GymNet
- How do I change my personal details?
You will need to log in to GymNet using your membership number and password. Once in, you will just need to click on the box of the information that you want to change. Remember to click on the blue ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the page.
There are a few details that are unable to be changed within GymNet and these are:
• First Name
• Last Name
• Date of Birth
• Email Address
If you need to change any of the details listed above, you will need to email in to firstname.lastname@example.org. (If you are changing details for a child under the age of 16 or are the parent account for someone aged 16 or 17, you will need to log in using your parent account details).
- How do I add a child?
If you already have an account with us (whether that be a personal membership or a parent account for another child) you will need to log in to Renewals with your parent account details. If you are having trouble logging in, visit our login FAQ’s page.Once in your account, you will need to click the blue ‘Add a child to your account’ button.
You will need to complete your details on the next page as required and click save.
You will then need to click on the blue ‘Renew Membership’ button. Check all your details are correct on the first page and click on ‘Continue’.
For page 2, Select the type of membership that is required and click ‘Continue’.
On the next page, ensure that ‘Renew?’ is selected as Yes, then click ‘Continue’. You can add another child at this point if required. You will then get a warning for the Equality and Diversity not being completed for this member. Click on ‘Continue’.
For the marketing preferences, tick the boxes if there is anything you wish to receive. Then click ‘Continue’.
If your child’s club has requested that we collect data for you, another page will pop up with medical information, emergency contact details, etc. Once completed, click ‘Continue’.
You will then be taken to a summary of the new membership and if all is correct, you will need click on ‘Finish and pay’.
Clubs can set members payments differently. If your child’s club has selected for them to pay, you will be taken to the home screen of your membership where the children on your account will be listed and ‘All accounts are p to date’. If the club has selected that the individual pay for membership, you will be taken to Sagepay to make payment.
- How does my child access the Academy?
If you have booked your child on to a course that requires the pre-course questionnaire or any online learning to be completed, they will need to log in to the Academy via their membership number rather than your parent account. You will need to:
Go to the GymNet log in page (if already logged in, click the logout button).
Click on Forgotten password, and complete with your membership number.
A reset password email will be sent to your email address. You will need to click the link within it.
When the new window opens, click on the drop box, choose the name of the child, enter the new password and then confirm it.
Your child will then be able to log in with their own membership number and password and access the relevant course and resources.
If the query is relating to completion of the pre-course questionnaire, they need to complete the process above then go back to the original course booking confirmation email and click on the link.
This will take them to the log on page, where they can complete child’s membership number and password and access questionnaire.
- How do I Change/Add a Club?
You will need to log in to GymNet using your parent account log in details. If you’re unsure of these details and are struggling to access your account, visit our login FAQ’s page.
Once in GymNet, click on the ‘Select a Child’ drop down box and choose your child.
Click on the Membership box.
Scroll down, passed the list of disciplines that have been selected for you child.
You will then get the list of clubs that your child is attached too.
Here, you can see the primary club that your child is linked too, see the club’s declaration and remove the clubs.
There is also an ‘Add new club’ option. If you click this and start typing the name of your club, it will be pulled up and you just need to click on add.
A set of questions may be pulled up if the club has requested that we collect this data for you. Once completed, click save.
- Can I join any gymnastics club and become a British Gymnastics member?
To obtain British Gymnastics membership, gymnasts need to be offered a place at a British Gymnastics registered club. Once you have been offered a place, your club will provide all the information needed to complete the British Gymnastics membership process directly with us.
- Why do I have to register membership directly with British Gymnastics as well as my club?
There has been a significant change to the current legislation regarding data protection. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is now UK Law. The GDPR has implemented significant changes to the way organisations can obtain, use and retain data in their day-to-day work.
It is due to this change in legislation that individuals must complete their membership directly with British Gymnastics and not via their club.

- How does my club know I have completed the British Gymnastics membership process?
During our membership process, we’ll ask you to tell us which club you attend. Once you have completed the membership process online in our website, we will instantly notify your club. If you have any issues, British Gymnastics Customer Support are here to help on 0345 129 7129 (Calls to an 0345 number are charged at a standard rate (calls from mobile phones may vary). Calls may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes).
- Do I receive a membership card?
Each member will receive a digital copy of their membership card through their Member Portal and this can be downloaded to your mobile device. A link to your Member Portal will be sent to you after you have completed your membership.
- Why does my club charge a club membership fee?
There are many different types of gymnastics clubs across the UK, from small volunteer-led organisations to larger purpose built facilities, from charities to community clubs. The one thing they have in common is that there is an amount of administration that must be carried out to make sure the club runs smoothly and everyone can take part. This could be dealing with class fees, completing competition entries or running committee meetings. To make sure clubs can do this well, many charge a small annual administration fee at the start of the membership year. Where this may previously have been collected alongside your British Gymnastics membership fee, clubs will now be collecting this separately.
- As a parent, can I register multiple members at the same time?
Through our online join and renew membership process, it is possible to complete the process for multiple members at the same time. The process will enable a parent or guardian to create a 'master' account and then attach multiple members to that account. This will mean parents/guardians, including those who coach or carry out a club role, can pay for all memberships in one transaction and only need to input personal information, such as their address, once.
- If I decide not to continue taking part in gymnastics, can I obtain a refund?
New participants are entitled to two free taster sessions and then have the option of taking out British Gymnastics membership. British Gymnastics membership once paid is non-refundable .
- I have been out of sport for some time, am I considered to be a new member?
If you have been out of the sport for less than a full membership year, your membership will be treated as continuous and will be back-dated to the start of that membership year when you renew. If you have been out of the sport for one full membership year you will be able to renew online. Members who have been out of the sport for more than two full membership years will need to ‘join’ rather than ‘renew’ their membership.
- Does my British Gymnastics membership cover me to attend more than one club?
If both clubs are British Gymnastics registered clubs, you will be considered a British Gymnastics member at both clubs. However, each club may have their own club membership fee which is separate. You may find both clubs ask you to complete the British Gymnastics membership process. However, if you’ve already done this, you won’t need to repeat it, simply show the club confirmation of your membership by showing your confirmation email or your membership card and add the club to your membership via your member account online.
- My club has told me my membership needs to be upgraded, what should I do?
Clubs can upgrade a membership on behalf of a member or their parent or guardian. Members can also log in to their member account online and upgrade the membership themselves.
