Francesca Engelhardt (Greenwich Royals) wins the Junior National Challenge

Report by: Kaylie Reakes Greenwich Royals GC

It took us all by total surprise when on Sunday 18th November, Francesca Engelhardt won the Junior National Challenge Championships. At the beginning of the year she was looking to retire, but decided to give her gymnastics career one last chance.

Francesca has shown great work ethic and determination at Greenwich Royals and she has been a pleasure to coach. She has been unfortunate to suffer with injuries over the past but is determined to accomplish and achieve. We were aiming for a top 10 finish, and with 2 rounds of gymnasts competing we knew it would be a tough competition. Francesca competed in the first round, and we were all in shock when we looked at the scores when she finished and she was in joint 1st place! It was very tense watching the next round compete, and we all couldn't quite believe it when she was still lying 1st at the end of the competition!

Francesca won the All Around trophy, as well as winning Silver Medal on Vault, Bars and Floor.

We are all very proud of Francesca at the gym as she has worked incredibly hard! She now has a great springboard for a successful 2013!

"I still can't believe that I have actually won it and I couldn't have done it without the support I have had from everyone, especially Kaylie Francesca (Greenwich Royals)"
