Richmond Gymnastics Association is proud to announce that our World class Senior trio have been requested to perform in the Gymnastics Gala at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer.
Katie Fearon (15), Roxy Parker (17) and Jen Bailey (19) have been a partnership for only 12 months, however after their great performance at the Acrobatic World Championships in Putian China, FIG have chosen them to perform in Rio. This will be their final performance together as Jen Bailey will be retiring after the event to continue her education.
The Senior trio: Jen, Roxy & Katie came 5th in China at the World Championships in April. A fantastic result against strong trios from China, Belarus & Russia amongst others. This was following on from their silver medal at the World Cup in Belgium in February.
Their coach, Melanie Sanders, was shocked and excited to receive an email from the President of FIG (Federation of International Gymnastics) requesting the trio perform at this Summer’s Olympic Games in Rio. With Melanie expecting her 2nd child in September, Senior RGA coach Scott Patterson will attend as coach.
The trio will be performing their combined routine representing acrobatic gymnastics along with the Russian mixed pair and the Chinese men’s four.
All three Acrobatic partnerships will perform in a gymnastic gala taking place on the 17th of August with gymnasts from all gymnastic disciplines; those currently in the Olympics (artistic, rhythmic and trampoline) and those which are not (aerobic, tumbling and acrobatics).
Roxy Parker said: "I absolutely can’t wait! Acrobatic gymnastics is not yet an Olympic sport so this is an opportunity we never dreamed of. We were speechless when asked to perform and intend to make the most of our final time together!"
Our London Chair of Acro, Christine Brockbank, told us
“It’s wonderful to have acrobatics represented in the FIG Olympic Gala, the London Acro TC wishes the girls a successful and enjoyable trip.”
Ben Murphy, our London Chair, fondly remembered his time at the London 2012 Games.
“The Games is about Athletes from around the World coming together and experiencing success on the biggest Global stage, as fans from all continents watch with eager anticipation. London Gymnastics hopes the girls enjoy the Olympic experience and the magic of being part of the Olympic journey. This opportunity will create memories for them that will last a lifetime.”
It is an honour that a Richmond partnership has been invited to perform in such a prestigious event on behalf of club and country and we wish them lots of luck. Watch out for them on 17th August.
