Birmingham’s Joe Fraser has his sights firmly set on his next year’s World Cup event in his home city after having his first taste of senior international competition at last week’s World Championships in Montreal.
The 18 year-old from the City of Birmingham Club missed out on qualifying for the high bar final, eventually won by Croatia’s Tin Srbic, but learned from the experience and is now back in training and focusing on selection for the World Cup Series which comes to Birmingham next March.
Joe, who won the all-around British title earlier this year said:
"The World Championship was an incredible experience for me. Training and competing against the world’s best was really motivational and I feel like I learnt a lot from the experience.
Looking ahead to the World Cup next year in his home city, he added:
“I'm now determined to get back in the gym and work even harder to up my skills and push on next year. Having the Gymnastics World Cup in Birmingham is massive. I'd love to be in the GB line up with the support of my local fans. The people of Birmingham are in for a real treat with the best gymnasts competing in the city, it's going to be huge."
The World Cup event takes place at Arena Birmingham and will feature (up to) nine male and nine female gymnasts from eight leading nations. The men’s competition is on Wednesday March 21st with the women’s following on Thursday March 22nd.
