Northern Ireland Gymnastics Awards - Press Release

The Northern Ireland Gymnastics Awards Ceremony took place at The National Football Stadium at Windsor Park on Saturday 17th February 2018. The annual event combined The British Gymnastics Northern Ireland and Gymnastics Northern Ireland Awards recognising, rewarding and celebrating the hard work our members have done for the amazing sport of Gymnastics over the past 12 months.

Claire McCollum, our host for the evening, truly brought the event to life and entertained the sell-out crowd of 190 guests from across the home country in spectacular fashion. The awards were presented to our clubs, coaches and volunteers by a variety of special guests including representatives from; Sport Northern Ireland, Disability Sport Northern Ireland, Ulster University, British Gymnastics and Gymnastics Northern Ireland.

With such impressive nominations being received this year, our independent judging panel had some difficult decisions to make. The following were announced as the British Gymnastics Northern Ireland winners in their respective categories. Congratulations to all nominees and winners:

•    Volunteer of the Year Award – Grace McLoughlin (Arabesque Gymnastics Club) (Pictured; Margaret Kane from AGC)
•    Young Volunteer of the Year Award – Jack Cairnduff (Peninsula Trampoline Club)

•    Young Coach of the Year Award -Emma Gorman (City of Lisburn Salto)
•    Participation Coach of the Year Award – Stephanie Brown (Rathgael Gymnastics & Tumbling Club)
•    Performance Pathway Coach of the Year Award –Simon Flannery (Andersonstown Trampoline Club)   

•    Inclusive Gymnastics Award – Kelly Morrow (Club GymFUN)
•    Services to Gymnastics Award – Maria Buick (Antrim Forum Leisure Centre)
•    Club of the Year Award – Abbey Gymnastics C.I.C

Congratulations also go to the Gymnastic Northern Ireland Gymnasts of the Year recipients and their coaches, for their hard work, dedication and outstanding achievements in 2017.

•    Acro - Shannon Trainor and Molly Houlahan (Newry Olympic Gymnastics Club) and coach Cushla Connor
•    Disability Gymnastics - Rachel McCann (City of Lisburn Salto) and coach Hazel Coates
•    Gymnastics for All – Ryan McHugh (Newry Olympic Gymnastics Club) and coach Cushla Connor
•    Men’s Artistic – Ben Harron (City of Lisburn Salto) and coach Kirsty Millar
•    Rhythmic – Diana Punt  (Castle Rhythmic Gymnastics Club) and coach Olena Punt
•    Trampoline –Katie Woods (Antrim Phoenix Trampoline & Gymnastics Club) and coach Ashleigh Barr
•    Women’s Artistic - Rebecca Geddis (City of Lisburn Salto) and coach Emma Gorman

It was fantastic to see such a great turn out from the gymnastics community to support and celebrate the achievements within the sport in Northern Ireland. We look forward to hosting the next ceremony in 2019.
