Northern Ireland Awards 2021 Winners

The British Gymnastics Northern Ireland Team had the pleasure of visiting several clubs in June to present the 2021 Northern Ireland Awards. The last year has been extremely difficult for the gymnastics community, with repeated closures resulting in many gymnasts and coaches being unable to train for long periods of lockdown. Clubs and coaches across Northern Ireland have put in an extraordinary amount of effort to motivate their members during this time, and to adapt the way they deliver gymnastics through virtual sessions and/or creating covid-secure environments.

These awards recognise the amazing contribution that clubs, coaches, volunteers and gymnasts have made to the sport in the last 12 months despite the overwhelming challenges they were faced with.

With extremely competitive nominations across all our awards, the independent panel of judges agreed the following as the champions of their respective categories. Well done to all nominees and winners:

  • Volunteer of the Year – Carole Cooke (Splitz Gymnastics Club NI)
  • Young Volunteer of the Year – Ellie Rutledge (Splitz Gymnastics Club NI)

A big thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination for the 2021 Awards and to all involved in the club presentations that helped us celebrate the amazing achievements of our worthy award winners.

It is great to see clubs back open and seeing the community returning to what they love. We have received some fantastic feedback regarding this year’s approach to the Awards and are already starting to look at what format the Awards might take in 2022.
