The evening of Tuesday 23rd June saw the awarding of South East regional honours to gymnasts, coaches, judges and volunteers.
The awards ceremony followed the Regional AGM and was attended by over 140 people, over a quarter of whom were gymnasts under 16 years. Our MC was Yvette Austin, who is a South East BBC correspondent and a former National Champion.
Over 100 nominations for the various categories were received, with 32 Merit Awards presented to gymnasts, 25 Merit Awards presented to coaches, including former Olympian Natalie Davies, and 6 Merit Awards presented to judges. Regional Gymnastics Awards had 6 recipients, with our youngest ever British Champion, Giselle Desseaux aged 10. Four International Achievement Awards were presented, including one to Katy Lennon, a former Olympian. In the Master Coach Category we had 8 recipients and 4 judges received the Judges Award.
In the Volunteers section there were 20 recipients of the Volunteer Award, 3 Young Leader Awards and 3 Long service Awards. In the Regional Club section, the Regional Small Club Award went to Up ‘n’ Downs Trampoline Club, the Medium Club Award to Dharma Gym for All, and the Large Club Award was presented to Jumpers Trampoline Club.
South East has two special awards. The Malcolm Taylor Award recognises outstanding support and commitment to gymnastics in our Region. This award was presented to Lynn Potter. The President’s Award is given for an outstanding contribution over many years to the sport and the recipient this year was Margaret Miler.
The Awards Evening recognised achievement, sportsmanship, leadership, inspiration, dedication and commitment of many deserving people. We had a long but very enjoyable and social evening. Congratulations to all.
