What a fantastic competition gymnasts had at the 2019 trampoline, tumbling and DMT World Championships in Tokyo.
From the South West, we had Laura Gallagher (Quayside Trampoline & Gym Club), Isabelle Songhurst and Kirsty Way (both OLGA Poole).
Laura and Isabelle helped Trampoline to a sensational silver scoring a team total of 162.820 just behind hosting Nation Japan, with Kirsty Way last up for DMT to give Britain a total 104.500 for a superb second place.
Laura was competing in her first senior individual final having produced a sensational performance in the semi-finals that also saw her seal Team GB a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Laura’s routine in the final began well but she had to battle mid routine to control the travel across the bed. She completed her 10 skills for a score of 54.090 to give her 6th place and complete a memorable championship for her.
The double mini trampoline women’s final had earlier opened proceedings in the vibrant Ariake Gymnastics Centre. Having taken team silver earlier in the championships, Kim Beattie and Kirsty Way were in action for Britain. Kirsty landed the second skill on her first pass a bit too far along the mini trampoline and so got too much distance on her landing scoring 31.200. Kirsty then fell on landing her second pass, and she then stayed down and was quickly attended to by the medical staff. She scored 33.500 for a total of 61.600 and 7th place.
