Introduction - British Gymnastics

The Performance Sport Department is responsible for the technical activities of each discipline.

It works closely with the National Technical Committees to establish a structure and an annual programme of BG funded activities covering coaching, competitions, selection events, training camps, management and administration.

The department manages a UK Sport Lottery Funded World Class Programme for the disciplines represented at the Olympic Games. The programmes are the responsibility of the Olympic Performance Sub-Committee and are designed to deliver World Class outcomes at Podium and/or Development levels, with the major focus around achieving success at Olympic, World and European levels.

Staff within the department are responsible for the UK wide strategic development of the sport, including setting policies, delivery of BG’s major events programme, running a Home Country Development forum, managing implementation of GymMark Accreditation, developing technical aspects of the BG award scheme, club classification and facility strategy.

The department coordinates an extensive range of sports science, sports medicine and anti-doping support services. Staff provide an advisory and delivery service for a diverse range of technical issues to members, clubs and outside agencies such as the Youth Sport Trust, Home Country Institutes of Sport, London 2012 and Local Authorities.  For more information e-mail:
