The Governing Body in the West Midlands Region is the West Midlands Amateur Gymnastics Association (W.M.A.G.A.) and was founded in 1960. It is responsible for the overall control and development of the sport within its boundaries.
The Region, although autonomous, is affiliated (along with all of the English Regions, plus Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), to British Gymnastics and the English Gymnastics Home Country Association.
The Region comprises the Counties of the West Midlands Metropolitan County, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Hereford & Worcester and Shropshire.
The W.M.A.G.A. is administered by an Executive Committee consisting of a President, Chairman, Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer, elected every three years plus a representative from each of the gymnastics disciplines, a Regional Welfare Officer and the Regional Coach Co-Ordinator.
Each gymnastics discipline namely: Men's Artistic, Women's Artistic, Acrobatics & Tumbling, Rhythmic, Trampolining and General (which includes GMPD and Pre-School), have their own Technical Committees, that are responsible for the control and development of their particular discipline. All Technical Committees are elected annually by the affiliated Clubs and Members, at specially convened Technical Assemblies. Each member club pays an annual affiliation fee to the Region.
Affiliation is open to any club in the Region provided that it and its gymnasts are registered with British Gymnastics (BG) and that coaches are qualified. The coach responsible for the club needs to hold either a Level 3 or a Level 2 with the Club Management Course, as these are the requirements for BG.
Communications with Clubs and members is well established through this website, Newsletters and Handbooks. The Region provides an extensive annual programme of competitive events for all disciplines and coach and judge education courses and seminars.
