The Inaugural West Midlands Level 1 to 3 Rhythmic Championships 2015
19th June 2015
The Inaugural West Midlands Level 1 to 3 Championships took place at Worcester University’s St John’s Sport Hall on Sunday June 14th.
Level 1 is for gymnasts who have competed in fewer than five competitions. All gymnasts in this category perform one routine which is judged on the Basic Code. All four clubs in the Region won at least one title – Worcester have the Under 8, Under 9 and Under 12 Champions in Elodie McNelis, Jessica Bettles and Chloe Smith respectively. The Under 10 Champion is the City of Birmingham’s Amelia Baird, the Under 11 Champion Elena’s Mckenzie Hickman and the Junior Champion the City of Coventry’s Vanesa Grasa.
Level 2 is still judged on the basic code but is for gymnasts who have either competed in at least five competitions before, or who their coach deems is working at a higher level than the Level 1 gymnasts. This section was dominated by Worcester, whose gymnasts won the Under 8 (Eden Wootton-Porter), Under 10 (Rowan Cross) and Junior (Megan Lumsden) sections. Elena’s Anna Marie Starrs was the Under 12 Champion.
Level 3 is judged on the full FIG code and is for gymnasts who are either too young for the National Development Plan Finals (Under 8s) or who fell short of the standard required to qualify for the National Development Plan Finals. Again the titles were spread around the clubs – Under 8 Champion – Eva Yordanova (Worcester), Under 10 Champion – Rhiannon White (City of Birmingham), Under 11 Champion – Marina Barker (Elena), Under 12 Champion – Ebony Lawrence (Elena) and Junior Champion – Nicole Allen (City of Birmingham).
