There was success for the Region’s Rhythmic Gymnasts at both the 2017 Open Apparatus Championships and 2017 Group Seeding which took place at Fenton Manor over the weekend of March 18th and 19th.
There were medals in the Open Apparatus Championships for both Mimi-Isabella Cesar (City of Birmingham) and Livia Haarcan (Elena). Mimi took Silver in both the Senior Clubs and Ribbon sections and also placed 5th with Hoop. Livia matched Mimi’s achievements in the Junior section with Silver medals for her Clubs and Ribbon routines and also placed 4th with Ball. In her first competition as a Senior, the City of Birmingham’s Asha Hamudir placed 5th in the Ribbon section.
The Group Seeding event determines the competition pathway for Groups for the remainder of 2017 with Groups being classified as Level 5 (Elite), Level 4 (National) or Level 3 (Regional) based on their ranking at this event. The City of Birmingham Senior Group (Nicole Allen, Jess Bateman, Sophie De-Bear, Natasha Hodson and Ailis McGuinness) finished first in their section, with their Junior counterparts (Francesca Barker, Daisie Burke, Emily Hawkins, Amalie Howard and Naomi Turton), competing as the City of Birmingham Stars, also topping the rankings. In the Espoir section Mia Harding, Elodie McNelis, Georgia Smith and Eva Yordanov from Worcester finished sixth in a field comprising a massive 41 Groups.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and good luck for the rest of the season!
